The "spitting' incident probably kept Roberto from being a first ballot......congrats to Andre!!

    Roberto should be in

He probably won't get 100% of the vote.

As someone stated on the MLB network today (paraphrasing) ... "Ted Williams didn't get in on the first ballot, so there are those few that feel no one should ever get in on the first ballot."

I know, I know ... I'm not defending them, just stating what was said.

No one is going to get 100% of the vote, ever. Just like some asshole voted Miguel Caberea for MVP this year.

btw ... whomever said that on MLB Network was wrong as Williams did make it on the first ballot (or maybe they said "if Williams didn't get 100%, than no one should" as he got around 94%), but here are some notables that didn't make it on the first ballot ...

    GROVER CLEVELAND ALEXANDER (Third Ballot)
    MICKEY COCHRANE (Sixth Ballot)
    JOE DiMAGGIO (Fourth Ballot)
    JIMMIE FOXX (Seventh Ballot)
    HANK GREENBERG (Ninth Ballot)
    ROGERS HORNSBY (Fifth Ballot)
    CARL HUBBELL (Third Ballot)
    NAPOLEON LaJOIE (Second Ballot)
    TRIS SPEAKER (Second Ballot)
    CY YOUNG (Second Ballot)

    Joe fucking DiMaggio ... really?

  • Does anyone know what percentage Edgar Martinez received? I can't seem to find that info anywhere. I'm really curious if he'll make it in. I feel like he should. I've read the argument that the DH is a lot like the Closer position. A specialty position. Should someone be docked because they only filled a specialty role, even if they were the greatest to ever do that? I don't think so. Edgar hitting that game winning double against the Yankees is just as much of a pressure cooker as a closer coming into a playoff game and shutting down a rally to get a save and win a series. Edgar HOF 2011!

Fuck yes he is a HOF'er and a first ballot. No fucking question about it.

300 wins. 5 Cy Youngs. One of the top 3 picthers in the last 25 years with Pedro and Maddux

Edit: Just looked at a few more stats:

3.29 career ERA almost 5,000 Strike outs. 10.6 k's per 9 innings. 4 straight Cy Youngs.

first ballot but not 100 percent. He's an amazing pitcher. I saw a game once where he threw 78 pitches for a complete game.

I agree. He was Mr. Efficient. He didn't have the best stuff around, but he used what he had so well. Let us not forget he pretty much had a stranglehold on the Gold Glove award for most of his career.

yeah, he's a no brainer 1st ballot inductee.

As for who got voted for this year ... seriously, who's voting for David Segui?

    What the fuck?

Hard to believe that Mattingly and Dale Murphy aren't in.

Dave Parker and Alan Trammell are borderline, IMHO.

Martinez is a hall of famer in my opinion. What he did against the Yankees along with his overall numbers are good enough for me.

As much as I wish Donnie Baseball were in, I am not at all suprised that he isn't. I think he has a chance someday if he has a good managing career..

There are a lot of borderline players on this ballot but I think it is a joke that only Dawson got in.

Alomar not getting in is pretty inexcusable. And if it's about that spitting incident, let's not foget the antics of Ty Cobb ... hell, even Ted Williams once spit on Sox fans once.

Agreed, there are a lot of players that had questionable behavoir in and it would be absurd if the BBWAA held that against him.

I also think there are a lot of players that had a very low percentage of votes and while they are not necessarily HOF'ers should have been closer. Larkin with 51% and Rock Raines with only 30%? Many others as well
