It's funny. All we ever heard about GW was how often he left DC. Now that Obama is in charge, they point out that he has to work despite leaving the White House.

Does this surprise anyone? No kidding a presidents job is 24/7. And even though he was a terrible president, why is it hard for people to admit that it was the same for GW. Nice preferential treatment via the ever reliably unbiased media.

if you're point is that the media is biased - there are plenty of good examples but bringin' in W is a horrible example ...

But it brings in people like you to the thread. ;)

Anyhow, I just thought it seemed odd after all we heard the last 8 years was about the president going on vacation, and no all we here is how the president can't get away from work.

  • ugh. This is the entertainment of the day for the Limbaugh and Glenn Beck crowd. Two years ago it would have been the subject of a hot-selling t-shirt, or more likely a bumper sticker, for the NPR listerners. Same old (useless) story that is as interesting as a poop joke. Less, actually.

Not so much. It's just pointing out a fact.

All I heard on the TV news was about Obama's vacation being "anything but"...and then I saw this article.

At first I thought, no kidding, he's the president, he works all the time from wherever. Which brought me back to here and how much crap GW took for being "on vacation".

It's just funny the way people change the story depending on who it's about.

Actually... Bush could afford to take a lot of vacations because Chaney was calling all of the shots, anyway... right?

you're probably right except for W ... that dude did fuck all and i'm pretty sure if he indeed was working - he wouldn't need to goto his ranch which is like over 2,000 km away from the white house ...

and Hawaii is how far from the white house ? (about 4,366 mi) and not to mention I could be wrong though, but I did hear somwhere that Obama has already played more Golf than Bush did. None the less it's a 24/7 job and if Obama thinks after a year he gets a weeks paid vacation and thinks he will be left alone man is he in trouble or should I say we.

dude - how many days did bush spend at his ranch vs. a singular trip to hawaii!?? ... try and at least be partially objective ... i'm not even here to defend obama ...

partisanship aside - bush did fuck all ... it's pretty obvious ...

Uh Dude Bush was a 2 term president so in the long run even after obama if he is only a one term president he will probably have spent more time away from the whithouse.
I thought this was his second trip or was the other one right before he became president ? Really I could care less. Just keep us safe and get americans back to work and leave those alone that wish to be left alone.

the guy spent 20% of his first term and a bit at his ranch (that's just the ranch) ... a first term that included 9/11 ... again - not sure about obama ... i just find it funny that people think he was working there ...

i know because he was never qualified to become president ... he went to the ranch because he had nothing to do at the white house because he didn't know what the heck to do ... it's why he had all his press-conferences screened and manipulated, it's why he could never answer a serious question about any topic without first being told the question and the answer by his aides; it's why on his recent speaking tour - he talks more about baseball than his presidency ... the guy was a dolt ... ;)

I didn't vote for Bush (either time) and I think we all agree that he took a TON of "vacation" time at his ranch or at Camp David but the golf playing is a different story. He stopped playing golf after September 11 because he said he didn't feel it was right for him to have that luxury after what happened.

I think Obama deserves some time off - folks here in DC say that he works 15 hour days.

i find using Bush as a standard to gauge Obama's actions pretty damn sad. Bush was a failure on all levels, he was useless. completely and utterly useless. a disgrace.

Obama should stand on his own, and be judged on what he is or is not doing.

and please leave W out of it. you should not be using the worst President this country has ever seen as a benchmark for acceptable Presidency.

Calm down fancy pants. My point is any president is working even when they aren't in the oval office. How am I judging Obama? Next your going to call me a racist...sheesh.

i'm calm. i'm not calling anyone a racist here. i'm sure everyone but you can see that.

your original post that started the thread was what i was replying to as well. i should have pasted that in too.

im raising what i see is a valid point. Obama needs to stand alone and be judged on what HE does. if he does a poor job he should be called out on it. Bush is done and dusted. time to move on.

ps. what exactly is fancy pants? is that a term old people use? i've never heard it before.

I wasn't judging Obama AT ALL (does the all caps help?). It was interesting to see how the media's interpretation of events changes when the person changes. My point is all presidents can work away from the white house. I'm glad that finally the media seems to agree, but it doesn't take away from the fact that they report the news from their own biased opinions.

I think we all know that the media can be biased on both sides. There is a very long thread here about fox and it's veiwers. And I realize that others can be very biased as well. But I don't think anyone on the right is going to get very far comparing Goerge's work record to Barack's. That's like comparing the work effort of John Daly to that of Vijay Singh. :) Those who follow golf will understand.

For what its worth, I agree ... Not only is a positive skew more likely here than it has been with previous presidents, the media treats this guy as if he is a celebrity rather than a politician. Truly ... We even get to hear about what the guy's kids got for Christmas, and can get regular Michelle Obama fashion updates.

well, what do you expect from our media. this is nothing new. he's young, good looking, has a nice looking family, cute smile, he's rich, powerful and he is the President of the United States of America. America's sad love affair with the rich and famous, what they're wearing, what they're eating, what they're driving, who they're sleeping with, breaking up with and having babies with, certainly isn't a new phenomenon.

it's like the whole Tiger Woods fiasco. is anyone else sick and tired of this? how can any reasonable person still be the slightest bit interested in seeing Tiger's latest 'scandal' as 'front page headlines'. get over it. there's more important things we should be focussing on.

the media reports what the majority of the people want to hear.

and i'm not one of them.
