Hey FE, how do you find the grip of the Sig Sauer versus a Glock? Can't decide if I should go with the lesser expensive one that police officers carry (glock) or a more expensive one that feds usually carry (sig sauer).

I can tell you that the Glock 22/23 are .40cal and are very nice guns. The 26/27 are 9mm and .40cal respectively and are very compact which can be a pain if you shoot 50+ rounds. I have a Sig P220 .45 and it is far and away the most comfortable gun to shoot. Worth the extra $$. Glocks are indestructible but Sigs are much more comfortable. The Glock has a polymer grip and the Sig is stainless. The sig weighs more but is better IMO. Not sure if you were kidding or not with you're post but figured I'd throw it in anyways.

I used to be on the HS Rifle Team back in the early 90's. Varsity for 5 years (started in JH), set the school record, etc. Nowadays every year I go down to Florida to visit my folks and my father will get his old cowboy Colt 45 and we'll go to the range and shoot about $100 of rounds. He just recently bought a S&W .22 long barrel (think Dirty Harry) for me to shoot, since .22 rounds are so much less expensive, and he said that pistol was much more accurate, which is what I enjoy most - putting holes in a tight group.

...anyway, one day I want to get a 9mm for my home, and I read so many good things about Sigs. Glocks look so boxy, and knowing they are poly-carbon means they don't have the weight for a good steady shot. I think it helps having a heavier gun, for your muscles to push against. Sounds like you agree?

Yeah, the recoil on some of the bigger calipers are very mighty so having a SS grip is easier on your wrist and hands. A 9mm is a very nice gun but still very powerful. Sig has a great selection of pistols. I like the fact that the sig has a de-cocking lever which means when the slide is back and you insert the magazine and release the slide, it loads a round in the chamber. That means the hammer is cocked. The de-cocking lever releases the hammer and puts the gun in double-action mode safely. No other gun maker has that.

ah... so (and pardon that I'm a novice) when you're loading, lets say a Beretta pistol, and the slide goes forward and the hammer is still out, and carefully with your thumb you need to put it back in place while squeezing the trigger, without accidentally firing - and you're saying the Sig's de-cocking lever has it's own safe way to bring the pin down without using your thumb? That's one thing that always worried me. Does it also de-cock the hammer if you manually pull the hammer back and then decide not to fire? I'm surprised the other brands don't have this feature. Also, it it on all of their pistols, at least the 9mm?

In the case of the Beretta and many other pistols, they have an external safety. It is never recomended you de-cock the hammer with you're thumb due to the risk of accidental firing. Once the hammer is cocked with a round in the chamber, there is a lever near the rear of the slide that you can turn from safe to unsafe(ready to fire).



Since the Sig has no external safety and it is unsafe to carry it cocked, they have a de-cocking lever which safely lowers the hammer without the chance of accidental discharge. All the Sig pistols have this feature. And yes, if you pull the hammer back yourself and decide not to fire, you can use the de-cocking lever to lower the hammer.

There are plenty of legal avenues to make the cash required for college.
