and crack you up
so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain

yep haven't been aware of this, thanks
You can spend your time alone, re-digesting past regrets,
Or you can come to terms and realize
You're the only one who can't forgive yourself

There are some conflicting information....He performed 'My City of Ruins,' right before the Sting finale, but many of the preview review articles only mention Mellencamp, Ethridge, and Sting as show closers...not sure what performances if any were cut from the CBS broadcast..

  • Regardless, this is going to be such a pleasure to watch and not have to see George Bush's ridiculous smirk...

from what it sounds like ed won't be aired...i think people here are forgetting that there are 5 people being honored and each gets more or less the same amount of air time...and the show is only 2 hours...so everybody here better not get their hopes up (although i know they will and later tonight there will threads and posts from angry children cussing out cbs for not showing ed's performance  )

If they aren't going to air it, hopefully they will at least put the video of it up on their website after the show.

  • here is a review of the broadcast by a couple t.v. critics.

---- And just when you think the night can't get any better, John Mellencamp, Melissa Etheridge and Sting bring the house down doing Springsteen hits — a segment introduced by a funny yet eloquent Jon Stewart. All told, an Honors not to be missed.

----Jon Stewart finds a perfect spot between reverence and giddy hero worship for Bruce Springsteen. ("I can tell you what I believe and what I believe is this: I believe that Bob Dylan and James Brown had a baby.") Then comes a powerful tribute to the Boss from John Mellencamp, Melissa Etheridge, Sting (heavily bearded, looking like the Miner 49er) and a heavenly choir. Springsteen sits there, stunned silent with humility.

this is why 10 club is not mentioning it like thay did the people speak, no ed. i won't be watching, looks like mellencamp/ethridge/sting. i figured they would throw in the song the sugarland girl did by herself only leaving out ben harper and ed but she's a no show too.

I don't think it's going to be aired, at least the web sites aren't showing it...I bet it was incredible.

The Honors Gala will be recorded for broadcast on the CBS Network for the 32nd consecutive year as a two-hour primetime special on Tuesday, December 29 at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT). With all these performances – and the other honorees – let’s hope all these great performances including Ed’s are included in the telecast.

If we don't get to see this tonight, I'm sure it would make a great Christmas single. Just sayin'.

    Jon Stewart on Bruce Springsteen

He's been embarrassing in the past: fawning, nervous, overpraising, typical fan. But when Jon Stewart steps up to pay homage to Bruce Springsteen to help close the Kennedy Center Awards tonight (qualifications: also from Jersey, interviewed him once on "The Daily Show"), he finally hits just the right chord.

Say what you will about the artists chosen to interpret Springsteen songs, from John Mellencamp, who merges the stark acoustic and full band versions of "Born in the U.S.A."; Ben Harper who sings a smoldering duet with Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland on "I'm On Fire" (their other two duets "Glory Days" and "My Father's House" excised for TV); or Melissa Etheridge, living out some dream by belting out "Born to Run.," the most exceptional voices in the salute were those in the big and bigger choirs accompanying Eddie Vedder and Sting respectively on "My City of Ruin" and "The Rising," both songs that rang of post 9/11 uplift.

    Interesting..

  • Does it ever occur to any of us that maybe Ed's performance was cut because it might not have been very good? Maybe he couldn't hit the notes like on Austin City Limits last month, and the other performers played a better performed song. Maybe not, but it's a possibility. They're also appealing to a mainstream audience, and Sting and Mellencamp are a little more mainstream kinda people who most viewers will know and recognize. Vedder appeals to just smaller, younger audience.

ed is the best live performer of the last 20 years

They're also appealing to a mainstream audience, and Sting and Mellencamp are a little more mainstream
this is why when i saw the lineup i knew ben and ed would get cut. mellencamp standing with his guitar smiling from ear to ear. sting with his normal mediocre but safe and happy performance, ethridge because of her demographic, and figured the country singer for some fuzzy cuddly feelings.

Why does he just appeal to a younger audience? Ed isn't exactly one of the Jonas Bros.
  • They just showed Ed and Jill clapping at the end of the Robert DeNiro segment

  • I don't have TV here. Torture!

However, I was just on the Kennedy Honors page over at CBS.com watching video clips (very funny, but no Ed)

BUT .... if you look under "Photos" his is the very first one so I'm going to assume they'll be showing his performance on the show :)
