Who knows what the future will hold.
It could be likely they take any number of years off from heavy touring. Perhaps, they release another record and then get back to the heavy touring. Maybe, they never do full tour again...maybe tomorrow they will announce they are playing my backyard
edit***they are prob not playing my backyard...I don't have a backyard.
They're getting old. They can't play like they're young and into it anymore; booze and cigs have that effect on the body, ya know. Mick Jagger was never into drugs or booze, why do you think he looks nothing like Keith Richards?
Otherwise, if the band can't do a full tour for a recent album release, they're clearly showing their age. Who knows when they'll completely throw in the hat. Not saying it to be mean, but I feel that this is the direction they appear to be heading with playing fewer shows per tour, focusing on playing festivals, and limiting their stage shows (as Eddie proclaimed at the Halloween show, "We're never playing this long again"). If Bruce Springsteen can play longer, it's because he wants to AND is in great shape. Ed probably doesn't want to and all that booze and cigs certainly doesn't help one's stamina.
The rest of the band appear to be in great shape and still have great stamina, however.
Maybe they are prolonging their career by doing mini tours, make sense to me. Having said that these champions are hardly over the hill like some people think.

Wow, I thought I was a harsh critic Actually Mick was VERY much into drugs and drinking for most of the early Stones career.. he just made a lifestyle change...so, there's that. Keith never made said change.

Variety is the key
this makes sense to me. They canstill bring it better than any band out there on a given night, but Eddie's vocal stamina is starting to wane....I will be very curious to see how they weather the next few years. Can they still be as successful without touring as much? if they only play 10-20 shows a year, or less, will their popularity (and money making power) begin to decrease? I don't think only playing festivals and putting out video games, phone apps and snazzy merchandise is going to get it done as they are accustomed to....
they don;t owe us anything. i hope they don;t tour for 5 years so you're all grateful instead of whining like a crackhead scouring the rug at the crackhouse.

Am I wrong for stating the obvious?
Who knows what the real reason is for the lack of shows for Backspacer release. (God knows that the band nor TC won't give us any indication of the real reasons). But they are getting older, and the stamina is just not there like it used to be. It's not being harsh, it's stating the obvious. If they really wanted a full tour, they'd do it.

Actually, I think the fact all the members have young families was stated a while ago as one reason for less touring. I know times I've been away from my young family (either seeing PJ or on business) have been difficult and taken the spark out of much of what I did.
I believe the band took their families on much of the Aussie/NZ tour which was quite manageable given the breaks between gigs and the more casual approach to life down here, but a full US tour would not be that family friendly.
I more than respect the band for putting their families first. They owe them a long way ahead of us.
In addition to the NYC dates, folks in the NE can look forward to the band playing Mansfield again in May.
Also heard talk of another Toronto date during the upcoming tour,...

Thanks for the great info....woohooo I'm all set now

If there are shows at MSG this summer, the Boston area and the Toronto area are no-brainers to get shows (along with Washington), so these rumours make sense. I am not sure what his source is on this one but I know him well and he doesn't post BS rumours...
I'd love to go back to Boston - if they played in Boston. But there is no way I am traveling to Mansfield AGAIN for shows...

The Mansfield info comes from a source in the region, he's very reliable for Boston-area info. As for the Toronto info, this is exactly what i was told:
"if the band comes back to Toronto next year, it (the venue) could be something special (fingers crossed)".

I would bet against that. I would doubt they will play the west coast or Philly. I also doubt we'll see more than 20 shows. The days of 50+ show NA tours are behind us...
Says who? The Stones still do it and they're 30 years older than PJ. Look at the last decade...they tour the shit out of their albums. What they'll probably is hit all non-2009 cities in the US (with maybe a few duplicates i.e. Camden and LA) and call the whole thing the Backspacer tour. All this speculation, "Oh, they're getting older and not doing full tours anymore"...That's crap. There's too much money and fun to be had by the band for them to turn all these things down.
They all have families now. Their tours have been shorter in length and scope.
