Euro fans - help please (2010 tour)

The PJ 06 tour I caught shows in Paris and Marseille France. My main perrogative was to spend a couple of weeks in Europe and catch a couple of shows while I was there. I am hoping to do that again this tour as 06 was a blast. Paris and Marseille were simple to get to because they were in the city. Most festivals (at least in the States)seem to be outside of the city and transporation and language barriers become more problematic.

I would probably be hitting 1 or 2 of these shows...
27-June Nijmegen, Holland Rock In Park Festival
30-June * Berlin, Germany Wuhlheide
1-July Gydnia, Poland Heineken Open'er Festival
4-July Werchter, Belgium Rock Werchter Festival
6-July ** TBD TBD
9-July Bilbao, Spain BBK Live Festival
10-July Oeiras, Portugal Optimus Alive Festival

Which shows would you recommend hitting that would be accessible and also the best atmosphere? Also, any rumors on the 6th? I assume it would be PJ only since it's a Tuesday.

Thank you

  • Even though I stay in London I've decided to go to Berlin. I don't want to go to a festival where the crowd is there to be entertained. I want to be amongst a crowd that's there to give and to show there appreciation i.e. a PJ only show. If you haven't done so already I recommend you check out the venue in Berlin (Wuhlheide). As well as an excuse to visit a country I've had my heart set on for some time the chance to attend what looks like one cool and unique venue is to much to miss.

    For my recommendations;

    Belfast, Dublin and Berlin!!

I'm coming over from Chicago-- Fly into AMS)
I have tickets for Nijmegen and Berlin; planning on Gdynia as well.
Never been to Europe and I'm trying to figure out the best means to travel from place to place.
    Eurorail perhaps?
I would be very grateful if anyone had any travel tips or suggestions? Ideas for lodging?
I had heard in the past there has been a group on a bus or something along that lines?
I'd love to join up with that group if possible.
Trying to keep a pretty slim budget so I'd be happy to share with anyone if the opportunity presents itself.
Please drop me a note if you can help!
  • Man,Berlin is amazing.Beautiful city with amazing nightlife.Maybe a little expensive but well worth the price!!!!! :D
    Bonnaroo 08,Tampa 08,Kissimmee 04,Tampa 03,House of Blues 03,Tampa 00,W.Palm Beach 00,W.Palm Beach 00,Ft.Lauderdale 96,St.Pete 94,Orlando 92,Jannus Landing 92.
  • I saw a report about Berlin on Tv and it really seems to be the place to be ... even if I live in France, I think Berlin is the best (and non-festival) date to see them !

The Nijmegen venue is really easily accessible- free shuttle bus there from the train station, and Netherlands has an amazingly efficient train network so if you're not staying in Nijmegen, you'll still have no problems getting to and from the venue. As an Aussie, I gotta say, the Dutch speak better English than I do. The venue itself is in a pretty nice park...

But not as nice as Wulheide. Others have already talked about the merits of Berlin. I've found that the Dutch do speak better English than the Berlin locals.

Poland is comparatively a lot cheaper. I found that it was harder to communicate with the locals when I was in Chorzow/Katowice, but maybe it'll be different in Gdynia.

Werchter is a free shuttle bus ride from Leuven, home of the crappiest of Belgian beers, Stella Artois. I love Werchter. My favourite festival. Everyone is so chilled out. The Flemish Belgians, like their Dutch cousins, speak English really well. Stick a Dutch guy and a Scot in front of me and I'll understand the Dutch guy more.

Don't know enough about the other places. The TBD is Arras, a French festival in a town square.
115 bucks for half a haircut by a novice? I want my money back!
  • 1 FOR SURE BERLIN

  • Thanks for the ideas! The venue in Berlin looks pretty cool and a PJ only show would be my preferred choice. I will figure the logistics with work, etc and see a few of you at a show(s).
