District 9 totally sucked but maybe i was under the influence. It just seemed to be a shit movie that made no sense to me.

My nominee's in no particular order:
Precious - disturbing but excellent movie
Avatar - though I hate to go with hype, this was worth the 2 hour wait in line. Plus I love the messages in it.
District 9 - Surprisingly awesome, great messages in it as well.
Star Trek - great even for someone like me who doesnt' know anything about the franchise
Inglorious Bastards - takes liberties with history but loved it regardless
Sherlock Holmes - RDJ could be in anything and I'll still love it.
UP - Soooo awesome... that dog makes my life.
I Love You, Man - I actually liked this one better than the Hangover
Away We Go - cute film, really enjoyable I thought
Pirate Radio - again, found this really enjoyable
The Cove - I don't come from Taiji!!
Disappointments for me:
Terminator: Salvation
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
9
The Soloist (an exception to the RDJ rule)
Ones I really need to see still:
Moon
The Lovely Bones (Although I think that one's released date has changed to 2010, at least in Canada)
the Hurt Locker
The Stoning of Soroya M
The Informant!
Where the Wild Things Are

When I saw it I didn't know anything about it... I saw a few posters at bus stops which were interesting but other than that never looked into it. It was unusual for me to see a movie without seeing the trailer or knowing nothing about it. Maybe it works? I loved it for some reason..

absolutly. District 9 had no character development, very little action, very predictable story. I was really looking forward to it and was completly disapointed.
Moon wasn't bad. It was a neat movie. Very different. enjoyable, but it could have been better
I'm aslo a terminator junkie, so that plays a role into it as well.

It was unusual for me to see a movie without seeing the trailer or knowing nothing about it. ..[/quote] i prefer to not know a lot going into a movie. i just need to a very high level summary. ie Zombieland...it;s a zombie movie. that's enough for me.
that was the single most uncreative comedy i have ever seen... COMEDIC SPOONFEEDING! its like they got a panel of frat guys together to write the damn thing... zachs one of the funniest standups around and even he couldnt save it... hell, bradley coopers basically the leading man and isnt funny AT ALL... just a linear series of non related mishaps and one liners that tried WAY too hard
sorry... just sick of hearing about it :x
ANYWAY
best movie of '09 goes to the basterds
avatar sucked too - looked awesome... sucked as a movie
Sherlock Holmes - RDJ could be in anything and I'll still love it.
UP - Soooo awesome... that dog makes my life.
I Love You, Man - I actually liked this one better than the Hangover

I'll see either up in the air or sherlock holmes tonight.
Of the movies i've seen so far none really jump out at me as being "the best" I really wanted "The Road" to be more then what it was. It was good, but not as good as I wanted it to be.

thank god i'm not the only one who found it overrated.
thought i was going crazy!
Twice, I've tried watching District 9 and both times I end up being more interested with what's on the internet than I am in the movie. I'm going to try once more this evening to watch it, but so far I'd have to say I'm not impressed.
For me, best movie of the year, by far, is Inglourious Basterds. Tarantino scores once again.

i dont eat whale meat though, so i know i'm not eating any dolphins
i eat a lot of fish too - i try to eat the sustainable kinds ... having said that - what they are doing in taiji is brutal - it's literally a mass slaughter - and the mayor wanting to put it into the national food system is even more troubling ...

yeah, i'm on a david suzuki mailing list and the organization sent out a seafood guide so i try to eat from that. my father is a professional sushi chef though so its hard to pass up some things.
i hung out with my daddy the other night, he made sushi... how can i turn down tuna nigiri and the canucks game? i'm sorry ocean!!!! :(
Tonight, me and the gal watched a few of the movies people are talking about in this thread ...
District 9 - Horribly predictable. I thought it was well acted, but the script was a hunk of shit. Just annoying. And yeah, the fiance loved it so, we now own it ...
Hurt Locker - meh. Had it's moments, the desert sniper scene was great. But, I found myself yawning quite a few times. Someone above wrote, "The Hurt Locker gets my vote- just so tense and ive never seen a film where you know exactly how these guys are feeling. Its just amazing" ... really? Did you serve? That's the thing that I wanted to know ... from the point of view of a vet, was this realistic? I mean, some of the scenes, I can see ... but, the main character kept "going rouge" ... that seemed a bit overdone.
James Cameron stating that this may be the Platoon of the Iraqi War made wonder if he bumped his head ... because that's ridiculous.
Few more comments.
The Hangover - Saw it in the theatre, got a lot of great laughs. But, once the surprise is over, it loses something. Tried wathcing it again a few weeks ago and it wasn't even close to the same movie. Ken Jeong is one funny fucker though.
Where The Wild Things Are - wow, disappointment.
Inglourious Basterds - Fantastic from start to finish. I hope Christoph Waltz wins everything he's nominated for because he was outstanding.
That is all.

D9 made sense, and was easy to follow, it just was lacking. the gf kept using partide to describe it. it's too big a word for me.

I'll def. be watching them tomorrow night and we'll see if my list changes!
Didn't see that many, a few sucked. Didn't see anything that was Great. Inglorious Basterds was the best.
I liked "Taken", saw that a couple times.
