Some real good choices in this thread. Still working on my full list but I'd probably go:

    1. Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson - "Summer of Fear"
    2. Matthew Good - "Vancouver"
    3. Phoenix - "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix"
    4. We Were Promised Jetpacks - "These Four Walls"
    5 Pearl Jam - "Backspacer"

The only place I've seen someone mention the Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson album is in SPIN's top 40. Really love it, damn good piece of work. If you haven't heard him before, reminds me of a young Dylan/Petty/Springsteen.....very good singer-songwriter.

    1. The Black Crowes - Before The Frost...Until The Freeze -- As a big Crowes fan, I feel that they've finally entered a world of their own. This album is destined to be a classic...it's got "Legacy" written all over. The recording process alone was impressive, the songs are all fantastic, and fresh as far as Crowes stuff goes. Anybody who can listen to "Been A Long Time (Waiting On Love)" without grooving is out of their mind!

    2. Mastodon - Crack The Skye

    3. Pearl Jam - Backspacer

I don't think I even bought 5 new albums this year. I bought 25-30 albums, but most of them old, many from the 60's and 70's. I'm too old to hang with you cool kids.

The best? I don't know, but this is what I got...

    Dinosaur Jr - Farm
    Neko Case - Middle Cyclone
Black Crowes - Before the Frost...Until the Freeze
    Monsters of Folk
    Pearl Jam - Backspacer
Alice in Chains - Black Gives Way to Blue
Living Colour - The Chair in the Doorway

wow, I bought 7! Take out AIC and LC and you got my top 5. Need to get Them Crooked Vultures.
    and the new Wilco.

Couldn't have said it better myself, regarding the Crowes album. I've been a fan since the first album came out, but they are band reborn now! Being snowed in here in Mass makes the Until the Freeze half perfect for a lazy, hazy Sunday.

I need to break myself into Mastodon too. what I've heard so far kicks my ass.
