  • I really like the band ASG while I am not sure if you can strictly define them as straight metal their live performances definitely are.

if you like type o negative, then you'll love seventh void. they're comprised of two members of TON. their debut album is the only thing i listened to over the summer.

    for me...

mastodon, metallica, seventh void, log, machine head, etc.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

  • I tend to listen to anything and anyone as long as it sounds good. There's bands that have produced lots of stuff I love, some that have produced only the odd song.

Mastodon, Slayer, Metallica (the earlier stuff) would probably be classed as my favourites, I've kind of lost touch (or interest) in the metal scene so pretty much stick to what I know!
It's gonna be a glorious day...

Gee, there's too many to name. How about I nominate every band signed to Roadrunner Records back in the 90s

Some great bands there. I saw Weedeater for the first time this year and really dug them. Their singer/bassist played bass on a couple bongzilla albums that were pretty cool.

Capt Evil Stopper you have some great bands too. Devin Townsend is pretty top notch.

As for me If i had to pick my favs currently:
    Mastodon
    Baroness
    High On Fire
    Opeth

Those are all top notch for me. I obviously loved that Opeth, High on Fire, Baroness tour last year!

Some others down, bison bc, melvins

I don't like pig destroyer's albums but god they are fun live.

Kylesa are pretty cool as well.

As for the older stuff of course black sabbath, metallica, iron maiden, some venom, type o negative are cool, sepultura, slayer etc I even like some immortal and emporer stuff but i'm not a huge fan.

I get into some post metal stuff with pelican and isis.

oh and as much as i'm not into extreme metal. Fucking Nile slays everything in it's path in my opinion.

So yeah i like mostly accesable metal. I'm not very troo metal lol but i'm okay with that.

oh yeah i'm a sucker for some amon amarth

    Static X
    Stonesour
    Black Label Society

I'm not really into the crazy metal myself, but I will have to second you on this. Nile is fucking brutal. Saw you mentioned the Melvins, who are awesome.

My brain was shot yesterday, here are some more:

Cannibal Corpse (not much for death metal...but this is an exception 8-) )
    Megadeth
    The Sword
    Soulfly
Metallica (early stuff for me as well)
    Danzig
Helmet (I dunno if you'd call these guys metal, but they kick ass)
    7/2/06 - Denver, CO

No mention of Anthrax yet? For shame.

I could listen to Among the Living all day long ... and Persistance of Time is one of the more underrated metals albums I can think of.

You can try Sound of White Noise, but, honestly, I never could get into the John Bush led Anthrax.

You should totally check out Terror Syndrome ('cause my buddy plays guitar). The band includes three guys from The Devin Townsend Band. They have one album out, but have recently changed singers (Dev plays on a couple tracks, and mixed the album too). The guitar player and drummer from Terror Syndrome are also heading out on tour in January with Dev in support of his new solo stuff.

  • Pantera.

I saw Pantera in concert in New Orleans in August of 1994 at the State Palace Theatre on their "Vulgar Display of Power" tour (Prong and Sepultura were the opening bands). I still have the ticket stub.

Two good albums there. I actually liked their Sound Of White Noise album that they did with John Bush on vocals in the early 90s. Anthrax definately had their moments.
