I don't care much for what the Rolling Stone mag usually publishes, given that most of the articles are based on blind accusations and sucking up to mainstream bullshit. I thought this was worthy of a mention since it is a readers choice list.

So here's the list:
1. The Killers – Sam’s Town
2. Pearl Jam – Pearl Jam
3. Kings of Leon – Because of the Times
4. R.E.M – Accelerate
5. Radiohead – Hail to the Thief
6. The Killers – Day & Age
7. The Raconteurs – Consolers of the Lonely
8. Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Show Your Bones
9. Beck – Guero
10. Muse – Black Holes and Revelations
11. Pearl Jam – Backspacer
12. The Mars Volta – De-Loused in the Comatorium
13. Them Crooked Vultures – Them Crooked Vultures
14. Guns n’ Roses – Chinese Democracy
15. Alice in Chains – Black Gives Way to Blue
16. Franz Ferdinand – You Could Have It So Much Better
17. Green Day – Warning
18. Wilco – Wilco (The Album)
19. Cake – Comfort Eagle
20. Blink-182 – Blink-182
_______

I can agree to a lot of the albums (Haven't heard two or three of them) on there with the exception of The killers - Day and Age which had two or three good songs and Them Crooked Vultures who I think are just a little overrated (good album nonetheless). Bit disappointed to see Riot Act or With Teeth (NIN) not make it. To me without a doubt the biggest underrated album was Chinese Democracy, putting aside the biased articles and opinions of the 'new lineup' and Axl, it is an incredible album.

So which albums would you have liked to of made/ not made the list?

i don't understanding this. backspacer has been very well reviewed. so was ST. also how can the KOL record be underrated?
  • I would mention a long list of albums by the Drive-By Truckers or even Jason Isbell solo, but I don't think RS finds them print-worthy. :o

    That's underrated!

The KOL album is their third album, not the new one (Only by the Night).

Underrated as far as sales perhaps, or radio play, rather than magazine reviews.

yea I don't get it... Both of those albums got positive reviews and feedback where as Binaural got lesser reviews and was a better album than both of these two put together times 64.
Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...

How Green Day is on that list is beyond me...they're possibly the most over rated band of all time. :?
  • I own more than half of these albums.

Should i be worried they made this list? :?

Anyhow, Wilco should really be on the best albums of the decade list!

I think that Indie Rock is really in right now and bands with a commercially acceptable name like Pearl Jam or the Killers, alot of people put in the junk pile because they have been successful. I may be guilty of that with Green Day, but I'm just not interested anymore.

It just another one of those times where I really dont mind them being left off the radar.

There is so much trash out there, Nickleback, Shinedown, etc that the masses just flock to and I am more than happy to stand in the back of the room quietly plugged into about half of that list, with Backspacer and boots making the most on my rotations.

    Rolling Stones = BAND

    Rolling Stone = Magazine

I totally agree with you! There are so many bands that are overrated it makes me sick...and then when I talk about PJ, most people only talk about 10...get over it!!! 10 is awesome but so is their most recent stuff! People need to listen to whole albums, not just songs on the radio!

Hail to the Thief should be #1. That record is the BOMB.
I smile, but who am I kidding...

Not a chance in hell! Avocado and Backspacer are solid albums! Binaural had too many skippables and fillers. Just my opinion. Don't get me wrong, Binaural is an amazingly atmosphere and deep, dark album, but its just not for everyday. It's b-sides were better than most songs on the album.

This is Rolling Stone's way of not putting these bands in their lists every year or decade cause every Bruce album and every Dylan album take up half the spots and the rest are picks they try to attract the most readers with. They have no integrity as a magazine anymore, this truly is meaningless.

  • I think the Avocado album is the most underrated album on The Porch.

Ha, I have the majority of those albums. I don't know how anything by Blink 182 could be underrated, but I agree with most of the rest. That particular Green Day album was the one before their commercial rennaissance, and is also decent.
  • Fuck Backspacer. Binarual should be on the list.

  • It's a little early to call Backspacer anything of the decade. I mean, it has been out less that 4 months. Maybe they should let things settle a while to make that determination. How can it be underrated already?

It gets even better - they have Them Crooked Vultures on there, which came out less than a month ago. I think they gave it 2 1/2 starts or something like that.
