  • Rearview Mirror. These are two of the best songs to close the first set, but for me nothing beats the energy of RVM.
I think it beats Porch on the studio version too, but it's pretty close.

Really tough.... Song wise I would say porch but jam wise I would say RVM. I would probly go with RVM because I like the jamming better and the ending is intense.

    Pretty much true, that.

Porch used to be the best song ever but I think RVM wins this battle because they rock the fuck out at the end of it live.

  • Rearview mirror studios better, the old porch (with Dave A, he made that song) was the highlight of every Pearl Jam show.

    Rearview mirror now though.

Exactly. Those versions of Porch from 91-94 was some of the best rock music ever performed by anyone. I like where the band has taken it over the years, but Ed just isn't the same on the build up from the bridge.

RVM, studio and live has consistently been great.

Check 7/12/03 for an amazing version. The beginning is as shitty as you've heard (I think Ed was preoccupied with the flasher). He goes to the back of the stage during the breakdown and fucks with his ebow for a while, providing this great feedback over some of matt, stone and jeff's best work together. It's like the breakdown reset him, and the end is one of the best endings, of this great song, you will hear.

Love them both, but would have to choose RVM after seeing/hearing the most bizarre version of Porch in Auckland, the rest of the show rocked but that song was off.
