umm, no. the decade doesn't end until 12/31/2010. the 00's might be over, but the decade is not.
Is that how it goes? I thought the decade would be Jan 1, 2000 - Dec 31, 2009
Technically, no, but it makes sense that way when visualizing decades. I'd like to think Pearl Jam formed in the decade of the 90s rather than the same decade as the 80s.
For cultural reasons, this decade ends in 3 weeks.

Personally, I thought it was a pretty decent decade. Started off at college, great time, graduated, great time.... a few years post graduation, the party continued.
However, the reality of entering the cruel post undergrad working world was very tough. Spend the middle parts of the decade struggling with debt. Made things tough. But then things really worked out for me and I landed in a great secure job... and it is nice to go on not worrying too much about finances. Had a nice chance to travel, live in a decent place, etc... A nice end to the decade leading to another decade where I can make the most of.
This decade seems like it was tough for the world. Too much technological advancement, without the advancement of the human moral mind.
Ahem...I shall now discuss my thoughts on the decade in the right thread....
I remember walking home at about 1.30am on the morning of 1 January 2000 and thinking what a uneventful and, in some ways, disastrous decade the 90’s had been. In retrospect, I had achieved nothing on a personal level, gone through a disastrous mockery of a relationship and was pretty low as I trudged home alone.
Certainly much more has happened, both generally speaking and on a personal level. I experienced the joy of meeting, falling in love with and marrying my Wife and the utter despair and sorrow of losing my Dad to leukaemia. Both events had a definite impact on me and still feel the repercussions of both, for good and bad.
I had the fortune to be at all three finals for the memorable season when Liverpool completed a treble. My travels cost me a small fortune, but the memories are priceless.
My idea of going to evening classes was both to educate myself further and potentially open up a new career path. As I am in the same job as I was at the start of the decade, I’ll declare a fail on this one.
I watched with utter horror and disbelief at the events of 9-11 – a defining moment in recent world history. I still feel compelled to visit New York one day. Whether or not this is a good or bad idea, I don’t know but it’s almost as if I need closure on what happened and to pay respects to people and a city that had the strength to overcome appalling adversity.
My religious beliefs have turned full circle. Religion failed to give me the answers and comfort that I needed after the death of my Dad and, together with a few examples of total hypocrisy, put me back to where I originally was – my own instincts and scientific facts invalidating everything I’d been taught to believe.
I discovered Pearl Jam (yay) and a depth and feeling in both music and lyrics that I’d never had before. Eddie is about as close to a musical hero as I’m likely to get, his ability to completely enthral an audience by his magnetic stage presence is amazing considering how surprisingly humble he appears to be.
From a social point of view, it's been pretty disastrous. The ongoing repercussions of 9-11, unemployment rising, financial meltdowns ironically caused by greed and a plastic economy brought about, no doubt, by the endless pressure on individuals to not just keep up, but be better the Jones'. A rise in alcohol fuelled violence, chavs roaming the streets, a law system that is lenient on criminals but hard on the would-be vigilantes who are trying to protect what's theirs and a level of political correctness that defies belief.
In summary. For me - pretty good, for society and the world in general - shit.
Philadelphia Phillies 2008 World F
Champions - our 1st championship in 25 years in the city
Pearl Jam 4 incredible shows to close out the legandary Spectrum (and a total of like 12 shows in the Philly area this decade (have to check my count on that))
Well I to got hooked on PJ this decade and recently went to my first 3 shows.
Society is a mess I agree with the above.
For me it was all about finishing high school, and going to tafe then university and finally landing a job.
I worked earlier this decade as a casual at a fast food place.
So this decade for me was about growing up, no love yet, my cat died but :(
And I went on a holiday overseas, first time since 1995.
Maybe what will come in the next decade will be love, marriage...kids?
Adelaide 17/11/2009, Melbourne 20/11/2009, Sydney 22/11/2009, Melbourne (Big Day Out Festival) 24/01/2014
while i see what people are saying about the decade not being the greatest in terms of poiltics, i actually think that the decade was great becuase people became involved.
in this decade, more people have looked outside of their own backyard and have looked out into teh world. as many here have stated, every decade has it downs, but i think there are more people who are caring now then before.

this is true....they outta just do a year twice so we can get on the same rythem. or say the first decade only had 9 years vs. the standard 10
Time is flying.
I have slight amount of optimism for the new decade.
Let's hope it brings good things and rock is born again.
