Well I think it was a shit decade.
A decade of fear and panic and disasters....
9/11
Bali Bombings
Terrorism throughout Europe and Asia
Constant fear of terrorism
Terror plots stopped in Australia
Natural Disasters (Tsunami especially)
Swine Flu, Bird Flu, SARS
Shit music
Shit TV shows
Global financial Crisis
Globalization
Unhealthier people
Increase in violence here in Melbourne
Bring on the 10's and change for the better

Yeah - think positive - I'm a glass half full kinda girl.....I get that the decade was bad...but hey..it's ended on a pretty good note - I just got accepted into my degree for next year, so the 00's can disappear happily, and bring on the teens!!!
It's been wonderful for me! I restored myself to health. I had fun acting in school plays at college. I FINALLY (after 13 years) moved here to Los Angeles: This city is quite simply the greatest Love I have ever known.
Yes, the world wars are horrible. I actually understand enough about Western politics in 2009 that I will try to change them for the better from now on. Yes, most people I know are getting sicker as they take more pharmaceuticals, more vaccines, and eat more GMO food. But the rest are learning that there are better ways to live: Like me, they are improving all the time.
I see this decade change from the noughties to the tens as the time that people are fed up enough to actually make positive Change.
you forgot to add bu$h and obama to that list
Sammi: Wanna just break up?
90s tv sucked, besides the Simpsons when they were good.
1. The Phillies win the World Series
2. Curb Your Enthusiasm
3. The White Stripes
4. Torrent websites and the like
5. Various concerts of the Pearl Jam variety
Lame Things About The 2000's
1. Bush/Cheney
2. Patriots with three titles
3. Media coverage of B through D-List celebrities (Jon & Kate, etc)
4. Star Wars Prequels
5. The freecreditreport.com commercials
Pearl Jam bootlegs:

The 90's had a lot of good TV. Seinfeld and Fresh Prince quickly come to mind. And don't forget all the silly Nickelodeon stuff like Salute Your Shorts and Hey Dude.

From a personal standpoint, the 00's have been one wild and crazy trip.
Started out with being on the brink of despair, and a heavy fog of depression. Then an expansion of my close family with the birth of a nephew and a niece. To having love, and losing it. In the middle, it was a little unguided, with no real direction, and then my mother's death last year. Bringing about a want/need to change in myself, so that I can feel proud of myself for her to call me son, even though I'll never hear the words from her mouth.
Damnit, I need to stop drinking! Now I'm all sad again!

i love madoff, cleaning up his mess is keeping me employed
Agreed. Name a decade that did not have all of those things in one form or another. They're all just spectacles in a way. Things that set up a context for how most people live their lives.
We should be hoping for a drastic reduction in indifference if we're going to hope for anything. That might be a good first step towards remedying the issues brought up in the OP.
Two things I did not understand about the OP...
1. How is this a bad thing? 2. When have decades of time (or larger or smaller amounts of time for that matter) ever been stagnant or immune to change? For the most part, change is incremental. I would submit that for the most part, change needs to be incremental.
Even the seemingly improbable fall of the Soviet Union at the end of the 80's had subsurface influences going back to it's founding. The fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany, Czechoslovakia's Velvet Revolution, Ukraine's Orange Revolution, the rise of the Solidarity movement in Poland... all of these incredible social movements didn't happen overnight to those that were taking part in them. It only seemed like it to those of us who were so far removed from their active participants and their motives.
lawyers...
Did you know my wealthy boss 20-30 million his brother 35-40 million and his brother in law 50+ million and you know what they continue on as if it's no big deal.
I saw Madoff's former house just up the street in Palm Beach. Nice spot too love to have the funds to buy that pad and the boat/yacht. His scandal has affect all of Palm Beach Florida for the worst for a while now.
Peace
