Are all Pearl Jam concerts like this?

I went to my first concert in August in Toronto at The Molson Amphitheater. I just found this short video of them playing Betterman there. The whole crowd was singing and it's amazing how much they get into it. I've never been to a concert where there were that many die hard fans and I can't wait to see them again. Anyway's i'm just curious to see if it's like that anywhere they play? And if so i'd love to see other videos like that.

  • It was like that at every PJ show I've ever been to. And it's not just the "hits" either. I've been in crowds where everybody sang an entire verse of Present Tense and Indifference. It's instilled....to want to JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMM.

Even if it's not your favourite song, singing along to Betterman is like a religious experience!

It was an amazing show. I took quite a few videos and the singing on this one is the best reminder of that night

I was close to or up the front for 4 PJ concerts in Australia recently. I have never been around so many singing people, couldnt see the crowd towards the back cos there were so many tall people around me, but there was a hell of a lot of singing going on by the crowd. Loved the experience! And I cant get enough of it either, JaneNY which is why I want to go to the States to see them next year, no way can I wait another 3 years!
  • I was in that Philly #2 audience. This is a better recording that does that moment more justice:

I've been to a few Betterman sing-a-longs before, but I've never heard ANYTHING like that. I hope when the boots come out it captures this magic...it was chilling and I get goose-bumps everytime I hear it. I've never heard an audience sing-a-long that was as loud, as synchronized, and as impassioned...each word from the audience was clear and on the mark. On the video, it looks like Eddie was even tearing up a bit. The best part was the audience didn't stop.

It's usually like this with regard to the not-stopping, however. People are singing all the words to "Push Me Pull Me", "Leash", heck even "Lukin". It's really something when you're at shows talking to fans around you (Pearl Jam fans are the highest quality people in the world, so down-to-earth, friendly, and modest), and you'll hear "I hope they play Breath, that's my favorite song" and you'll say "Holy Sh%#! Me too!" Or they start playing "Force of Nature" and you say "Alright! I freakin' love this song" and someone will say "Yeah man, this is a beautiful song".

Honestly, fans at other rock concerts can be simply lame in comparsion. The best part is it's all about the music, plain and simple.

One of my highlights is Present Tense at ACL. Ed encouraged us all to sing and keep singing. I was 8 or 9 rows back from the stage. So bad ass. Everyone in the crowd was singing to every song all night.

75- 80,000 people screaming "Hellloooooo" during small town was priceless. It had been too long for Texas Baby. :D

  • Here are songs from 5 different shows I saw from the 2009 tour (LA3, LA4, Perth, Melbourne, Sydney):

I think you can see - while not all Pearl Jam shows or crowds are the same - they all cross over into the grounds of religious experience.

"In 2004, the Beastie Boys released a live concert documentary entitled "Awesome... I F'in Shot That." They handed out 50 minidv cameras to members of the audience, who documented the event, and everything was edited together to offer a unique perspective of the show. After seeing Pearl Jam live in Madison Square Garden on June 25, 2008, I couldn't help but notice all of the digital cameras and camera phones that surrounded me. It seemed like a similar experiment was taking place, albeit in a less official and organized manner. I searched message boards, video hosting sites, and online communities in an effort to track down as many different perspectives of this specific performance as I could. Featured above is the result, a "fan video" in the truest sense of the word."
