They're not directly clamouring to challenge the top spot, so your point falls down. Carry on finding silly links that don't back up your case. Bye, angry people!
The point is that without the X factor it would be a far more level playing field. No record company is even going to entertain the thought of giving those singles a major push because they don't stand a chance.
I'm not angry at all, far from it. For me this is all just a bit of fun, the child inside thinks it would be funny for a song with loads of swearing to get to number one at christmas. Plus I'm a RATM fan, plus I think the X factor song is crap - those are reasons enough for me to spend a couple of quid downloading the song.

Good to see you pop your head in here for the first time in a while just to chastize people?

If they're hanging out with each other and jamming on the BBC....they should write an album.
This video sort of embodied everything I both love and hate about Rage. First off, the stuff I love: I just love the intensity of any live Rage performance and the fact that you see them jamming like this...even on an old song like Killing...give us all a small shred of hope for a full-scale reunion and new album someday.
Having said that...
Zack saying "fuck" on the show after promising not to is the type of shit I hate about Rage. I know his logic is that they "told him" to not say it and of course, "Fuck you, I won't do what ya tell me". But at the end of the day, they really should just be thankful to be getting this attention. Killing in the Name was written in '92 and they haven't made any new music in a decade. They should show respect to those BBC broadcasters who had them on to talk about it.
But as usual, they rage against nothing. Like that show where they stood naked with "PMRC" written on their chests instead of playing. Or when they were refused SNL's request to not have the upside down flag on the speaker and were kicked off. Or when Timmy C climbed that thing at the MTV awards. WHO ARE THEY FIGHTING??? Tipper Gore, Loren Michaels, LImp Bizkit and now Simon Cowell? These guys actually make me proud of PJ for the Ticketmaster stand or for parading around in George Bush masks. At least they were trying to fight the man.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very much for this campaign because I like Rage's music and I think Simon is a douche bag. That's why my above post is me complaining that I'm not able to participate because I can't get a site that will allow me to purchase from the US. But Rage needs to, for lack of a better term, grow up. Don't get me wrong, I bet there's a lot of 16 year old facebookers who think Zack is just totally badass for saying "fuck" on the BBC. But it's such a tired act.
Jesus that turned into a rant. Either way, I want to see Rage go to number #1 because it would be funny (and I guess a great job of social networking by whoever started the facebook group). And I'm also happy to see that Paul McCartney supports the cause: http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/i ... -k-battle/

And here' you've missed the entire point of it all, this isn't about them needing or wanting attention, it's about the British public being able to decide who they want at number one. In the past few years we might as well have ignored the number one position and focused on the number two spot, because the X factor song will always got to number one regardless of who sings it, or what song it is. I suspect RATM decided to throw the swearing in to help gain some attention for the cause, which might a) remind people to download the song, and b) in turn get more people to donate to the chosen charities.

No I haven't missed the point at all. I know they're donating to charity, I know that it's about how the X-Factor song always goes to #1 and that that's lame. I'm just saying that Zack swearing is just a little low brow. The fans put on a nice campaign that got so much attention and sticking it to the X-Factor is fun cause. And it's awesome that Rage played live on the bbc like that. But the swearing (after not swearing just moments before in the song) shows that they just wanted MORE attention.
yeah the second one is hilarious. the first one wasn't bad either. I knew though when I saw what they both were that 2nd one was going to be hilarious.
Here's a pretty funny Rage video. It's Bulls on Parade from SNL but sped-up. Zack is like the angriest chipmunk you'll ever see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6aqoYF9y5I

Yeah you have missed it, by not swearing to start off with the producers were lulled into a false sense of security, then bam!!! The idea was to generate even more attention for the cause. Why should they censor the song for the BBC anyway? The BBC could have just put it on a time delay and beeped out the swearing.
Yeah you have missed it, by not swearing to start off with the producers were lulled into a false sense of security, then bam!!!
Yeah I got it, dude. I totally understand. I'm just saying that it's sort of cheesy to see Rage out there lulling BBC producers in and then BAM...saying "fuck". I mean, maybe 10 years ago I would have come into school the next day and say "Yo did you hear how Rage said "fuck" on the radio last night?" But now it just seems kinda lame.

Well I think that has more to do with you than the band, I suspect their main motivation is the charity aspect. So in terms of drawing the most attention to their performance and thus the cause, it made perfect sense. Censorship is something they have never stood for, I don't see why this is any different. These aren't 'naughty' words for the sake of it, Killing In The Name is a song with a meaning behind it, and they absolutely shouldn't censor it, despite how 'past it' you are. The song is what it is, it's still a shouty, in your face call to arms no matter how you choose to see it.

I agree that censorship sucks. And I agree that Killing in the Name is a song with meaning behind it and like you, I also see it as a "shouty, in your face call to arms." But it's not really censorship if you agree not to say something, and then say it anyway and get cut off. They were warned. Censorship is like what happened to Pearl Jam getting their anti-Bush lyrics edited out of the AT&T webcast. They had no restrictions to what they can say put on by the event organizers, and yet their lyrics were cut. Rage on the other hand were given a restriction, didn't follow it, and rightly were cut off. Again, it goes back to my claim that Rage fights pointless causes. Yes....censorship sucks. But "fuck" has never been allowed to be said on terrestrial radio and never will....so it was another pointless point made by RATM.
Either way, I like the whole campaign and hope the song goes to #1.

I think non-UK people can do this and have their choice included in the UK charts. Definitely works for UK people though.
