    I think it's brilliant.

    A very apt Christmas alternative!

  • With respect, this whole campaign seems completely moronic to me. We'd get a shouty, cod-political anthem from the early nineties at number one in the charts rather than some Cowell-manufactured, easy-listening muzak. It won't save the future of popular culture as we know it.

It's a shame people can't get so motivated about things that matter.

    PS Bah humbug.

The whole thing, at the end of the day, is just a bit of fun... hence why they tried Rick Astley one year. They just happened to chose a song which actually stands a chance this year, due to RATM's vast popularity. I'd say the moronic people are people like yourself reading far too much into it.

At least the Rick Astley idea wasn't pandering to middle-class snobs' chav-punching, quasi-masturbatory fantasies.

I do so enjoy hyper-defensive people on the Internet who, having no means of dialectical skill or wit to propose a contrary point of view to something originally posted on a thread, voluntarily allow remote DSM-IV diagnoses of their evident personality disorders by resorting to cheap abuse (where somebody's differing opinion threatens their fragile ontological security). Keep it up. Vote for Bob Garolgees and Spit The Dog singing Irish rebel songs next year.

One could argue that someone who tries to put somebody down with such OTT verbal diarrhea was also a bit of a snob.

I don't really think it's fair to refer to Killing In The Name as a "cod-political anthem" - with respect to RATM, they've always stood up for their beliefs - hell, they've been arrested enough times to prove it!

I think the point of this campaign is to simply bring a bit of excitement and spontaneity to the Christmas number one again. Obviously in the grand scheme of things it doesn't mean a great deal. I do think it is kind of sad how contestant show winners and artists related to the shows, are making up most of the top ten these days though. Plus as a side note, the X-factor's hold over the Christmas number one spot has prevented other charity singles from raising money.

Okay then, I'll spill it out in baby language for you.:lol: RATM has been arrested a few times? Does that make them more genuinely political than your friendly local city councillor? How does that work? Politics is more about unblocking drains and fixing street lights than it is clenching your teeth and being seen to donate royalties to sexy revolutionaries from the seventies.

X-factor has prevented other charity Christmas singles from reaching the top spot? Give me at least three examples, or I'll write what you just said off as being complete bollocks.

Anyway, carry on. Unite, brothers and sisters! Unite against the scourge of scepticism.

My god dude. Enough with the laughing smiley faces.

Anyway, I'm not from the UK so I don't know much about the British charts around Christmas time or anything like that. But what I do know, is that a mass movement against anything Simon Cowell-related has to be a good thing. He's an annoying twit to us Americans...I can't even imagine how much Brits must hate him.

Pfffffft. Okay, you take silly things seriously and don't like being laughed at. Why does it even matter if Cowell is number one every year? Really? What difference does it make? Cowell is a pop impresario who feeds chum to the masses the way they like it: saccharin and inoffensive. Have you ever watched old 1970s Christmas episodes of Top of the Pops? The charts were wall-to-wall shite then. In fact, they were worse. Why would any intelligent human being over the age of 12 care about what was top of the charts? Are you bastions of high art, or something? Wait, why would any intelligent person even discuss something so dumb? That's it, I'm off to do something constructive ...

It doesn't need to be written in baby language, just language that doesn't make you look like a hypocrite.

I didn't say that it did make them more political, it just means that they are willing to fight for the things they feel passionately about - things like censorship in music, civil rights, human rights etc. I think human rights are more important than broken street lights - which is not to say they aren't important, but they are more community based issues which don't need such a big platform to bring them to people's attention.

Here's an example of a charity single this year that hasn't had the opportunity to gather any momentum:

They're not directly clamouring to challenge the top spot, so your point falls down. Carry on finding silly links that don't back up your case. Bye, angry people!

The point is that without the X factor it would be a far more level playing field. No record company is even going to entertain the thought of giving those singles a major push because they don't stand a chance.

I'm not angry at all, far from it. For me this is all just a bit of fun, the child inside thinks it would be funny for a song with loads of swearing to get to number one at christmas. Plus I'm a RATM fan, plus I think the X factor song is crap - those are reasons enough for me to spend a couple of quid downloading the song.

Good to see you pop your head in here for the first time in a while just to chastize people?

What did you go away and get old or something? :D

If they're hanging out with each other and jamming on the BBC....they should write an album.

This video sort of embodied everything I both love and hate about Rage. First off, the stuff I love: I just love the intensity of any live Rage performance and the fact that you see them jamming like this...even on an old song like Killing...give us all a small shred of hope for a full-scale reunion and new album someday.

    Having said that...

Zack saying "fuck" on the show after promising not to is the type of shit I hate about Rage. I know his logic is that they "told him" to not say it and of course, "Fuck you, I won't do what ya tell me". But at the end of the day, they really should just be thankful to be getting this attention. Killing in the Name was written in '92 and they haven't made any new music in a decade. They should show respect to those BBC broadcasters who had them on to talk about it.

But as usual, they rage against nothing. Like that show where they stood naked with "PMRC" written on their chests instead of playing. Or when they were refused SNL's request to not have the upside down flag on the speaker and were kicked off. Or when Timmy C climbed that thing at the MTV awards. WHO ARE THEY FIGHTING??? Tipper Gore, Loren Michaels, LImp Bizkit and now Simon Cowell? These guys actually make me proud of PJ for the Ticketmaster stand or for parading around in George Bush masks. At least they were trying to fight the man.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very much for this campaign because I like Rage's music and I think Simon is a douche bag. That's why my above post is me complaining that I'm not able to participate because I can't get a site that will allow me to purchase from the US. But Rage needs to, for lack of a better term, grow up. Don't get me wrong, I bet there's a lot of 16 year old facebookers who think Zack is just totally badass for saying "fuck" on the BBC. But it's such a tired act.

Jesus that turned into a rant. Either way, I want to see Rage go to number #1 because it would be funny (and I guess a great job of social networking by whoever started the facebook group). And I'm also happy to see that Paul McCartney supports the cause: http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/i ... -k-battle/

And here' you've missed the entire point of it all, this isn't about them needing or wanting attention, it's about the British public being able to decide who they want at number one. In the past few years we might as well have ignored the number one position and focused on the number two spot, because the X factor song will always got to number one regardless of who sings it, or what song it is. I suspect RATM decided to throw the swearing in to help gain some attention for the cause, which might a) remind people to download the song, and b) in turn get more people to donate to the chosen charities.

No I haven't missed the point at all. I know they're donating to charity, I know that it's about how the X-Factor song always goes to #1 and that that's lame. I'm just saying that Zack swearing is just a little low brow. The fans put on a nice campaign that got so much attention and sticking it to the X-Factor is fun cause. And it's awesome that Rage played live on the bbc like that. But the swearing (after not swearing just moments before in the song) shows that they just wanted MORE attention.
