Pony I'm sittin' here with fucking GOOSEBUMPS just from reading your experience. I'm so happy for you, what a great feeling it must've been when Black started ... I can't even imagine it xD
Shame I couldn't make it to Auckland .. sounds it may have rivalled Brisbane's show ;D WHICH ROCKED
I did all 5 Aussie shows but couldn't talk my non-musical wife into NZ. I have just lived Auckland vicariously through your fantasic post and experience.
short shrill squeal at the very very beginning about 3 strums in
I heard it.
Sydney, Australia - March 12, 1998; Sydney, Australia - February 14, 2003; Sydney, Australia - November 8, 2006; Sydney, Australia - November 25, 2006; Brisbane, Australia - November, 2009; Gold Coast, Australia - January, 2014, Gold Coast, Australia - November 2024
Yeah I heard it, very loud considering how far back this was recorded lol
I saw the video before, didn't think it'd be that one due to the distance from the front lol
Adelaide 17/11/2009, Melbourne 20/11/2009, Sydney 22/11/2009, Melbourne (Big Day Out Festival) 24/01/2014

it was comforting to know that i was sharing space in a crowd with some of the people here - hi joewalshdc, see you when tom mcrae comes huh? - anna, danny... whoever...
so
in 95 i wrote a fanview of the second supertop gig. i wrote it in longhand, took a bromide of it surrounded by gig souvenirs - a packet ofoddfellows, a ticket, a vitalogy cassette - and posted it to a couple of friends. posted, that is, in an envelope with a stamp on it.
in 98 i wrote two fanviews, one of welli, one of auckland, and sent them to kat and sea to put on synergy, which they did. i even got a nice reply from one of them -was it kat or sea i don't remember. anyway i don't think they exist anymore which is kinda sad. history.
yesterday i wrote a fanview of friday night on pages torn from my sons drawing book while travelling from ak to taupo. i may post it yet. but hey i only just got home.
i'll tell you what my husband said at the end of the gig, and he is not the uber-fan that i suspect i may be, but went to those three previous gigs with me...
"well then. we don't need to ever see another gig. that was like the perfect barrel. i wish we were going to northland tomorrow, i REALLY need to surf now."
Yeah I heard it, very loud considering how far back this was recorded lol

what can i say? i'm an excitable gal.
I think your scream did more damage to peoples hearing than the band

"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
Wow, only just getting onto the forums now, so exciting to see these setlists in writing and to realise...fuckin epic concerts.
Faithful by far my high point of the auckland concert. Anyone who was alarmed by the pregnant lady bawling her eyes out, never fear, I was fine in the end. And thanks to everyone around me for making sure I had lots of space and being considerate to my condition - I wasn't expecting it.
I was on mikes side, right up the front, let me just say right now THANK YOU for splitting the field in Auckland, it meant I was able to get an amazing view and be right up the front whilst not feeling like I was endangering anyone unborn! I came so close to getting a pick from Mike but the security guard couldn't understand what I was saying...even when the chick next to me did an air guitar to try and explain he didn't get it...but better than a pick I got a smile and a wave from that legendary guitar maestro himself (altho we all probably think they were lookin at us, huh? But he was I tells ya) seeing him so close doing that epic solo out on the speaker right in front of me... happy tope
Was VERY happy for Doompony when I heard Black come on! Then when I seen Ed and the Banner even better. I saw a bundle being thrown up next and thought it was Mr Snuggleton but it was a silver fern flag.
Second highlight was Neil Liam and Ed doing Love not given lightly. Glad to hear Ed acknowledging several times the 11 year absence. And Johnny Guitar ROCKED!!
I will remember both the aucks and ch ch concert for a long time. Thanks for making the trip down here, everyone involved. And Ed did say last night at the christchurch gig, they'll be back in one year, two tops. I intend to hold them to that...
From my shitty seat up in the heavens I finally got to experience total bliss... I had been waiting 18 LONG years to see my favourite band live (cos I was only 12 & 16 last time they were here) and I'm kinda speechless... how do you put down in words the feelings that explode from you when you experience the full blown Pearl Jam experience??? Nothing I say seems to do it justice!! I think also I'm still trying to absorb it all.
There were so many highlights for me... from Ben & Eddie doing Under Pressure, to Hail Hail, to Doompony's Black (which happens to be my favourite song as well), Unthought Known blew my socks off! Just Breathe was a beautiful moment to share with my man. Red Mosquito rocked out! Love Reign O're Me was A M A Z I N G!!! Really everything was incredible...
It was hard to go to work today! If I could have afforded it I would have flown down to Chch last night!!!!
Peace & love to all of you that were there and lets hope the boys are back sooner rather than later!!!!!!!!
WOW sounds amazing!!!
Can't believe its over and the guys leaving our wonderful corner of the world!
Its been a blast! I only went to one show (Perth) but have enjoying every minute of the tour from everyone here!! So so happy I found you guys ( I don't feel so lonely anymore hehe )
Thanks to THE BAND hope you enjoyed it as much as we all have
see the path cut by the moon for you to walk on...just like last time at mt smart in 1998, i watched the moon move across the sky during the gig...it's like he just writes those lyrics for us to have those moments, clever bastard!
and then he (ed) said that the song made him think of 8 years ago... and before he even said it i knew he was gonna say ...the aurora australis. i saw it too, way back then, and wondered if he was there (HERE) to see it, and he was, and he said so, and, well, goosebumps.
First time seeing them after years of waiting and I wish I'd taken time off to go to the other shows..what an amazing experience! I can see why people follow them, each show is unique it seems.
Highlights were Corduroy & Hail Hail for me..two of my favourite songs.
Moving to UK in January so will hopefully get to see a lot more of them live..O2 arena sometime in March/April I think?
Does anyone know where to get the Auckland shirts from? Saw it in a previous post and desperately want one!
"if you see me on the street call me eddie and i'll buy you a drink.."
then the crowd screamed. ed laughed and muttered "you'll never see me in the street..."
That was the funniest bit! I don't know if it will come through on the bootlegs (the mumbled aside bit, I mean). I thought from now on in case I ever meet him on the street, I need to carry the bootleg (so he can remember he said it) and my ticket/wristband to prove that I was there. I mean it's not like it was an open invitation, just specific to those in attendance I reckon...

I dont know about every1, but there was 1 guy who decided it was a good idea to pee in a bottle and get it all over me and about 8 others
paraphrasing...
