State college holds 107k. Maybe question was most in attendance?? Also I was told Bonnaroo had 65k so maybe another festival had more?

One of my favorite boots and had no idea that was in the arena. Although I knew there was no way there was 107k there.
  • that's how many people were at bonaroo though, not how many people stayed and watched PJ, which is an unmeasurable amount. I would guess somewhere in South America. those soccer stadiums are HUGE and hold a mass amounts of people, and i heard they were all sold out, weren't they?

That just adds to the badassness of that show. Front row bitches!!

Thats why I was guessing Brazil. But I heard there were 100k people actually at Roo/tickets sold and 65k at the show. I just dont know how you could actually get an accurate count...

  • Festivals really don't count. Soldier Field.

Bonnaroo had more than that 80-90k. Lollapalooza was estimated around 100k

  • ti heard the outside lands festival this year was nearly 100k...but regardless pink pop had to have over 100k at it in 92 just look at the video you cant see where the crowd ends

Id agree with you if it was based on just visuals but event in the post show interview Ed/Jeff said something like 50k.
  • There was a huge crowd at "Mudfest" in 1993:
08/14/93 - Gimli Motorsport Park: Gimli, Manitoba (Sunfest '93) [100m]
    attendance: 47,000
set: Even Flow, Why Go, Deep, Jeremy, Animal, Glorified G, Daughter/(Gimme Shelter), Go, State of Love and Trust, Garden, Blood, Alive, Black, Once, Porch, Indifference, Sonic Reducer, Rockin' in the Free World, Baba O'Riley
notes: This show is frequently referred to as "Mudfest" due to a downpour prior to the concert. One of the reasons that this show is so incredible is that PJ was jumping out of their collective skins to be able to cut loose for more than 90 minutes. Currently touring with Neil Young, they were confined to an early 45 minute set. They were offered this slot (and are the only non-Canadian band ever to play this large festival) and it became their night. Despite Ed's drinking, PJ is very high energy and intense.

...but a few nights later there were 60,000 in Toronto.

They also played in front of 80,000 in Rome that same year, but they were opening for U2, so that number is probably a bit smaller.

I think they projected that Lollapalooza 2007 had a crowd of 80,000 for Pearl Jam, with a possibility of 100,000 as that was the day's attendance

Some people seem to be omitting the recent venue at ACL... The festival claimed it only sold 65k, however, when I was entering security on Sunday was lax, to say the least... I was near the front, and looking backwards i would guessimate that there were easily 85-90k there.

That being said... Has Pearl Jam played Glastonbury? I think they have haven't they? That is the biggest festival in the world, it annually attracts 150K...

Also to consider: I know PJ has done Mexico City, and I can tell you that the football stadium there is the biggest venue Metallica has ever played at 107K+....

And there's also Wembly Stadium to consider... not sure if they're played that legendary venue or what the capacity is... anyone?

I don't think this riddle will ever be solved... just argued over...
Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.

i would agree, but let's see if the OP agrees too

my reasoning for them not counting is that you may know how many people were at the festival, but you can never know definitively how many people were watching PJ...and you don't know how many people were watching it for the whole set, most of the set, half the set, a few songs, joined in late, came and went...too many variables to get an accurate measurement of audience members...

at an actual PJ concert, you know how many people bought tickets and how many people watched PJ...

my answer sticks with somewhere in South America

...do you mean as far as a Pearl Jam show goes, or a festival where Pearl Jam was one of many headlining acts?

My first PJ show was in San Fran 1995- and there were over 50k - Guess who was front row center? I was 14 years old I believe. The pits back in those days were about half the size of a football field- they were killer! I just hung on to the rail as the madness broke out behind me!
That was my favorite show of all time! Drove out about 8 hours slept in the car for about 4 hours and then made it the front of the line the next day (abt 7am- show started around 4or something) Then drove right back home another 8hrs..... I have my brother to thank for that crazy experience ..... oh yeah did I mentioned Bad Religion opened up for them! And that ed only performed 7 songs- Yup my favorite PJ show of all time!

sorry i went off the topic a little there, but it was like 55k... hope I was able to help
  • didnt Lolla 07 have 80,000 there plus 10,000s of people watching online?
  • There were about 50,000 at Melbourne the other night, 26,000 in the GA area.

    Jeremy - Melbourne 2009

I'd have to say a South American show will top the list - they get insane crowd numbers over there.
