what does everyone do after work?

This 3-4 hour time slot at the end of the day is starting to bug me. Long enough to get bored, not really long enough to do anything interesting!

Voraciously surfing the Ten Club homepage and excessively listening to PJ, of course!

  • I admit this time of year is so dark and boring. My local pub is about the only social activity I engage in this time of year. Though, I've been thinking of starting a new painting. Always a fun way to kill time. Hell, maybe I'll go to a life-drawing class.

seriously. after coming home from uni I spend another few hours on work.... but after that it's mostly reading books, surfing the internet, listening to music and sometimes a movie.....or chatting with flatmates :)

good point. maybe this time of year with the darkness setting in at like 4 pm is part of it! I've been looking for adult education classes too, but new classes don't start up until January! I've been thinking I need to go to the bar too, at least on Fridays. I just have to get up the nerve to go in by myself! Maybe I should move that to Thursdays to start.

But there won't be that many people. It's nicer to meet new people when going out. That then would be an incentive to go out again.....
I have a problem with the weather over here in BC. It rains and is gray the whole day. Causes depression at the moment. I really feel it.
Going out helps definitely and if you are artistically talented, it's great too.....

Usually check in here, then attempt to work out, followed by eating something, then I hit the bottle, then hopefully my wife as well later...

I work 12 hour rotating shifts with an hour commute each way. I have converted my 3rd stall garage into the House Of Pain where I attempt to work out if I feel up to it and if its not too cold. It gets real cold in Wyoming and all I use is a small heater. If its too cold to hold the bar I give up.

Wife and kids are busy with home work most of the time so its off to the big screen and the laundry!!!

hit up the bar, listen to music, smoke a little, read. Usually drink though :D
  • music or movies. Its what I live for. Its what gets me through the day, the thought of that 3-4 hour time period. When I was working, literally every second of the word shift would be spent thinking about what movie I was headed to once work ended, or what concert I was headed to.

For me, i needed the time post work to rejuvenate myself.

  • Work out, do some laundry, some general cleaning, cook dinner, check my e-mail/surf the web, watch a movie or a ball game. I've learned that if I do a little cleaning and laundry during the week, I don't have to mess with it on the weekends.

Bit of housework, make tea, talk to hubby & son, fiddle on the computer, watch a bit of telly, read, sometimes go for a walk (yep in the dark).
  • Not a lot most nights but I am going to start playing guitar again as soon as I get the house sorted.

Ain't gonna be any middle anymore.
  • Most days I do my little jobs round the house first (hang washing up, wash up, vacuum etc), then I do my exercises (either an hour on my step machine or (OMG I can't believe i'm admitting to this..) do a workout DVD  ). After that I shower, put my Pajayjays on and start dinner for Dave getting home at half 6.

Sometimes, if there's nothing major to do at home I'll log in here or go to see friends for a coffee and then start dinner. At the moment I have a lot of Christmas prep/arty crafty stuff to get done so i'm doing that too.

I finish work at 3pm though and I work about 2 miles from my house, it's rather convenient for getting stuff done after work :D

After Dave gets home at half 6 we eat. Then we'll either just relax with a film, see friends or have an early night. Again, at the moment we're doing stuff for Christmas so that's being done after dinner too.

I usually go from work to the gym.

    Then I eat dinner.

Then i don't do much either.

Sometimes i'll see a movie, watch some sports, maybe go to the bar and watch sports, surf the net, download music, sometimes i read a little bit.

I hate this time of the year because it is so dark so early.

After work i go too a kung fu class most nights, or stay in and play guitar/piano, maybe a smoke :D

lucky enough to work at home now and check this out in between so evenings are usually dinner with hubby and the pack and something on the tube. Love the fun evenings though when its PJ on the front porch or back deck partaking in pleasures. Thinking tonights the night- maybe try to come as close as I can to the set list from down under- and a down under dinner wonder what that would be.....
  • I go to the gym usually within an hour of getting home
    come home & have dinner
    shower
watch tv or a movie, listen to music, internet, read

sometimes there's dishes to wash, laundry to do

nights seem longer now that it gets dark at 5
  • Most of my work days are really long...I don't usually get home until 9 or 10 at night...so I check email, etc. get organized for work the next day and fall asleep on the couch. I'll have a few nights where I'll finish at 5pm over winter break so I am looking forward to having some evenings free!

If 3-4 hours isn't enough to do anything interesting, you have no imagination :)

well it doesn't sound like anyone does anything TOO exciting :). I work out in the morning, so that's part of my lack of activities after work. I never seem to get any housework done during this time slot either, it's like the TV has me held hostage or something. It got kind of sad when I found myself longing for the days of college and grad school when I had to spend all night working. If I had more work, I'd probably just stay at the office most of the night!

Oddly enough when I was unemployed for about two months last year, I was always out of the house. Go figure. But I mostly went to the coffee shop and did job searches at night, or I went to professional events. Now that I have a job, I don't feel like doing any of that stuff! (plus it seems hard to make it ANYWHERE on time on my schedule).

I get home around 4-5 every day. My afternoon will then consist of any form of the following:

    golf
    tv
    playing guitar
    computer stuff
    reading
    cooking
    go for a jog
go out to dinner with either my wife or a few buddies (Wednesday is generally guys night w/ my buddy)
    watch a movie
play xbox (but only for a short amount of time)
    clean
work softball league (in the summer)
    meet former co-workers for drinks
    take a nap
    go to a cd store
    call a friend
    tennis
    etc etc etc etc etc

I don't 'suggest' anything. You and I have talked about this before: you just have to find stuff you are passionate about and/or enjoy doing. There's not much more to life as far as I am concerned.
