They won’t do an anniversary tour. But they could definitely tour without new material. It would just be a varied set with deep cuts. Similar to the 2018 tour
That was with new material though right?
I can't imagine them not putting out a new album but I'm hoping to catch them regardless
Remember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018) The Golden Age is 2 months away. And guess what….. you’re gonna love it! (teskeinc 11.19.24)

The one dude on Reddit has been pretty insistent that the odds of LP10 are very low. They clearly have some insider knowledge. Granted it may be based on why they haven’t done one in 9 years and why it took them 5 years before that. But clearly it has nothing to do with lack of songs given The Smiles output. Im not expecting a new record, but I can’t see them turning into a just tour the old stuff act either (after at least this tour). I have my theories as to the lack of a record, but we’ll see.
Let’s hear those theories!
Well, we know every LP has been a labor for them. Clearly every song goes through several iterations until they dial in on the final product.
Johnny said last year or the year before, he wishes Radiohead could make albums that are only 75% as good if they could be done 90% faster. I think the Smiles output is what he wanted for RH. That reddit poster was pretty insistent that LP10 would not happen, which is weird given all the material they've made solo wise in the past 7 years.
I think there are members of the band and their team, while their intentions are good, stymie the recording process making it a chore and the break for the past 7 years has been for members to explore and get stuff out of their system for the good of the band. We know Ed has wanted a return to rock for the band for decades now and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he hasn’t been utilized as well as he would probably like since OKC. He put out a solo record in the past 7 years and is working on the follow-up. I feel like they were giving Ed his space. I also wonder if Nigel was a hindrance for quicker productivity as well. Them seemingly dumping him for the Smile records last year kinda support that. He did have massive input into shaping the records he produced. I think the only way for LP10 to happen is for them to just pump it out like they did with the Smile records and to better do that they may need to streamline the decision making process during recording (essentially letting the song writers, Thom and Johnny, make the call). The solo albums are exercises in individual band members getting their artistic desires out there outside of the Radiohead bubble, so that theres no ego in the decision making process for a potential LP10. Breaking from Nigel also removes one line of input as well.
Again maybe it’s a huge miss and this is just my stupid outsider/fan thoughts and that the reality is simpler than that. Solo records, composing, and a pandemic happened, and being together for the better part of 30 years they just wanted a break.
EDIT: Tightened up my thoughts now that I'm not on a phone call.

This is spot on. I went to a show on the Amesiac tour even though I was having a tough time penetrating that record and Kid A. I saw what the fuss was about.
