Since when did the Stones put out progressively worse albums?
They set the bar with 25 records through 3 decades. Blues, Rock, Country, Reggae, Funk ,Disco.
I dont think you know what you're talking about. When PJ comes close to Beggars Banquet then we can talk.
Ask Mike, he knows.
UMMMMMM what have the stones really accomplished since 1980? extract hundreds of millions of dollars from peoples wallets, nothing really artistically though douchebag

Call me crazy, as I'm sure you will(maybe even worse), but Pearl Jam seems to have followed in the Stones footsteps of releasing progressively worse albums (since No Code) while maintaining a great live show. Don;t get me wrong I'm not saying that PJ's albums since have sucked but none have been able to achieve the mastery of their predecessor. And certainly none have topped what No Code is was and will be.
I can't say that I agree with anything that you just said.

As one of the biggest Stones fans out there (Seen them over 50 times so far), there is some truth to the declining albums, albiet with a gem thrown in every once in a while. Case in Point:
1978 Some Girls, 1981 Tattoo You....both excellent albums, then 1983 Undercover had some moments, but was not at the same level, 1986's Dirty Work is the worst release they have ever had (an arguement can be made about Satanic Majesties, but that was a concept album). 1989 Steel Wheels, right up there with Dirty Work. 1994's Voodoo Lounge was a major step forward, and IMO one of their top 10 albums, but it was back to a poor effort with Bridges To Babylon (1997). I am a fan of 2005's "A Bigger Bang", but it is not Beggars Banquet, Exile on Main Street, or even Goats Head Soup. Until just recently (since Keith's "fall", IMO), the live show has been progressively better. There isn't the Raw feeling of Rock and Roll that was the 1972-73 tour, but the Licks Tour from 02-03 as well as the first portion of ABB tour was fantastic, better than 89 and 94 (which had too clean of sound IMO).
There's Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson......and then everybody else.

Post 1980:
Start Me Up (1981)....iconic song
World Tour (1981)....largest world tour ever attempted with audiences that big
World Tour (1989)....Shattered ticket sales records, breathed life into rarely heard live songs such as 2000 Light Years From Home, very successful album sales of Steel Wheels
Voodoo Lounge (1994) wins the Grammy for Best Rock album of the year, great blues/Rock song (Love is Strong) and a song that became a part of virtually every live show since due to the way it works with a large crowd (You Got Me Rocking), world tour broke their own record.
Bridges To Babylon Tour (1997-98) broke their own world tour, reviving more rarely heard songs for their tour (19th Nervous Breakdown, Sister Morphine, Crazy Mama, etc). Out of Control was an average new song on the album, but again hit a homerun in the stadium setting
Licks Tour (02-03)....pretty cheap touring behind a greatest hits album, but did play several small club shows where they played virtually all album cuts and B sides, and creatively reworked many of them.
A Bigger Bang (05-06)....crappy Super Bowl performance aside, one of the best new albums since the 70's, covering all the genres, great Blues (Back of My Hand), great "Stones Rockers" (Oh No Not You Again, Rough Justice), and a great funk/dance tune that was great live (Rain Fall Down)
While surely not as strong creatively as their first 25 years, the next 25 years did contain many innovative ideas and creative moments.
I can only hope that Pearl Jam has this kind of run.
Also, check out some of their solo projects from that era (Charlie Watt's Jazz albums are some of the best out there and Talk is Cheap by Keith Richards may be better than any Stones album since Some Girls...its that good)
There's Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson......and then everybody else.
scroll up and look at the last two posts from the original poster (PilatesBetterman). He's out to get a reaction just as he was with the original post. resorts to name calling when both of these posters simply offered up their opinions. real mature.
I hope they do turn out like the Stones . It gives me hope to be able to see them in concert again .
I agree....I am a big fan of both bands, and I don't get offended when someone bad mouths either of them, because there are a lot out there who don't care for PJ or the Stones, but the fan bases of these two bands are about as loyal as there could be! To each their own.
There's Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson......and then everybody else.
The general consensus is that Yield is the bands best work. I don't think I've ever seen Yield lose a best album poll on the pit. Not in recent memory anyway.
AND Avocado is better than Riot Act so you're argument is pretty terrible.
I agree to a certain degree with the original poster...I think PJ's first 5 albums are their best, in which order I don't know, bu they are the top 5. Binaural is nice as the black sheep. New sound and all that
Riot Act & Pearl Jam were not up to much...
All bands have their golden years, and then its average albums & great tours. I hope PJ isn't in that category yet, but I'm a little worried...
Riot Act was horrible, and Pearl Jam seemed like a breath of fresh air when it first came out, the energy was back, Eddie was screaming, but alas I just don't think the songs were that strong, and its probably why it starting to appear at the bottom of people's PJ Album Polls....
I dunno what kind of drugs you're on but to me pre-vitalogy-Pearl Jam is boring and uninspired.
Ten and VS. Uninspired?? WTF! Have you recently suffered a head trauma? I know to each his own when it comes to opinions, but that is just crazy talk...
Animal, Go, Rats....BLOOD?? Come on, I do enjoy Vitalogy very much, but wtf is so inspiriational about Bugs, Hey Foxymophandlemama?? I love the album, but really?
Yield is def better than No Code... in my opinion.

80% of riot act is on par with pearl jam's best work ever...........
can't keep, lbc, save you, cropduster, i am mine, 1/2 full, all or none
Avocado is solid....but not quite deep enough for my tastes.
And for thousands of years mankind thought the Earth was flat. Popular opinion doesn't change the truth.
Yeah but the fact that Yield was the greatest album ever does.Even Riot Act and Binaural could be considered as good as if not better than No Code, personally I prefer No Code but if Riot Act and Binaural had a couple less filler songs they'd be better.I don't really see the comparison in that The Stones' new albums are generally ignored by most people,no offence to them, whereas lots of people I know are aware of I Am Mine and Worldwide Suicide and although only a fraction of Ten and VS.,the sales are still quite strong for PJ.I think they're more like Bruce Springsteen, delivering more esoteric albums as they go along and reaching a new audience while doing so while not denying that they have a very popular and acccomplished past.
It may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

Sorry grandma but I think I'm a bit more indie than you are. I like songs that grow with time. No Code covers such a wide range of different styles while Ten is mainly glorifying Ed's voice. Sure I was blown away the first time I heard him but I like his more recent song-approaches alot mote.

Well, this will tick off some but, IMHO, the Stones best stuff ended in the 70s. They had a few minor comebacks up to 81 and a couple of songs since but nothing to top their work from the 60s. And to be honest, I tend to think of their concert work as kind of boring with the only point of interest being wondering if "Kief" is really still alive. On the other hand, PJ, as a live band, keeps getting better. Truth be told I rarely listen to their studio albums and really only listen to the various live stuff. And that I can't hear enough of. I have lots of old Stones on vinyl but the only time I hear it is on the car radio and 50-50 I turn the channel almost as fast as if it was something like Brian Adams.
what the hell is wrong with you? if you act like a complete jackass to catch people's attention you must be a 12 year old.. respect people's opinions and they'll respect yours. your argument has no merit once you start calling people names and belittle their opinions.
how can you include "pilate" in your username (unarguable the WORST song on yield... though i still like it) and still not give yield the credit it deserves?!?
each album since yield has had its charms... PJ being the weakest effort IMO... im expecting a triumphant return to form (not in the watered-down media sense that avacado was praised as) with their next album! if not then there might be some truth to your theory... I certainly hope not though... the stones recent stuff (everything after tattoo you) has been absolutely TERRIBLE

wrong. 'wishlist' is the nut-filled turd on yield, not pilate.
and yield is better than no code. not by a lot, but enough.

Please understand that I'm not attacking you, I just kinda find it funny that your name is pilatesbetterman. I would expect Yield to be your fave, or at least Vitology?
appreciate and respect PJ's creativity with all that they've done, it takes a true musician to do things the way THEY want to. They truly took Neil Young's advice:
"No matter how low you get, or how rough it goes you just gotta keep making music, keep putting stuff out there."

Go sell crazy someplace else. You know that part where you think we'll call you crazy or worse? You should be. However, decorum does not allow me to post that here. However, since you seem to know that there is a 'worse' out there, go ahead and imagine the most vile name you could call someone. Nope not that one. Go deeper. Yep. That one. That's what you are.
