Call me crazy, as I'm sure you will(maybe even worse), but Pearl Jam seems to have followed in the Stones footsteps of releasing progressively worse albums (since No Code) while maintaining a great live show. Don;t get me wrong I'm not saying that PJ's albums since have sucked but none have been able to achieve the mastery of their predecessor. And certainly none have topped what No Code is was and will be.

I bet most here would say PJ topped No Code two years later... with the very next album they released. I certainly think they did.

but its not the truth... its your opinion..

but Yield is as good if not better than No Code... after Yield your argument might hold water.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

I think that Yield is a great album and only falls short of No Code by the narrowest of margins. Can;t really say what where when or why but listening to the whole albums No Code has never been topped. I challenge anyone to listen to them back to back , lol

Well, for me Binaural is as good as No Code, indeed they're my favorite pj albums.. Riot Act is a great album too, I honestly think that only avocado is a step behind all others.. Too many generic songs on it, though the second half of the album is really good. The Rolling Stones are dead many years ago, but they still go on because of $$$$$$..

And for thousands of years mankind thought the Earth was flat. Popular opinion doesn't change the truth.

Without wishing to be a dick about it, there is absolutely no record anywhere that people ever thought the world was flat. They didn't know it was round exactly but it was thought to oval or with many sides, but never flat.

Oh, and Yield is better than No Code by the way

    Straight to the point. Agreed.

Yield is considered PJ's best by many, more so then No Code I believe.

Avocado is a love/hate album. But I'm sure many agree it is certainly better than Riot Act.

Since when did the Stones put out progressively worse albums?

They set the bar with 25 records through 3 decades. Blues, Rock, Country, Reggae, Funk ,Disco.

I dont think you know what you're talking about. When PJ comes close to Beggars Banquet then we can talk.

    Ask Mike, he knows.

im guessing the op doesnt really like the country/funk/disco records? therefore his opinion would be that they are lesser records. just the way i read it...

  • This is just how I view it and I know it's not the truth, but to me, No Code and Yield are like a double album. Kinda like SOAD's Mezmerise/Hypnotize. I feel like they are different but extentions of each other, kinda like a Yin Yang. One is not better/worse than the other, they are equal.

Not me. Riot Act is 100% better.
  • Yield is better than No Code, but not by much. To me, if they had stuck with the original, leaked tracklisting of Binaural, then we would all be singing a different tune. To me, they reached for something on Binaural, and came oh so close to achieving it. They just killed it with poor tracklisting, a problem which has really plagued them on most albums.

i'd agree with you on that. i see no code as their 'exile on main street.' their best overall album and most cohesive artistic statement, but one that is difficult and something of a grower.

they did it even more so with riot act. down, other side, and undone... all far better than anything on riot act, none on the album.

Actually as far back as the Greeks it was known that the world was round.

More info than you probably need to know about that.

    Anyway, carry on!
