Personally I thought the 98 tour was the best, but everyone has their favs.

    that was an insane tour!

it was their St. Louis comeback show, hadnt been here for 7 years and they played one hell of a set list

Set List: Oceans, Hail Hail, Brain Of J., Spin The Black Circle, Tremor Christ, Given To Fly, In Hiding, Corduroy, MFC, Wishlist, Nothingman, Improv into Habit, Even Flow, Daughter/(Institution by Suicidal Tendencies), Immortality, Black, Alive; 1st Encore: Do The Evolution, Jeremy, I Got Shit, Better Man/(Save It For Later), Fuckin' Up; 2nd Encore: Yellow Ledbetter

Eddie's voice was at its weakest during the 2003 tour, so I don't agree.

    You're joking right?

Ed was great in '03. You couldn't tell the difference in Blood from that tour and Blood from '95. I specifically remember standing there in Houston, hearing that song and thinking, you know, if Ed hadn't cut his hair, I could swear this was '95.

Couple that with his newfound ability to do shit like Arc, and that tour was pretty bad ass from a vocal perspective.

IMO, 1998 and 2000 was maybe the worst (by ed standards) because he seemed caught between "grunge growling ed" and "ed who actually knows how to sing." it was a little off-putting.

I saw them in Boston on the 06 tour, they seemed like they were going through the motions and playing just a show, there were no extended jams/tags (that I remember) on songs like Even Flow and Better Man, lack of "rare" songs or covers (I swear they play RITFW or Fuckin Up EVERY time they're in Boston.) They just seemed to lack energy. that was the only show I saw that year, but it was definitely the worst.

And see, I saw them five times that year, and they were great. Those SF shows were pretty intense ... Mike smashing guitars, Ed flying all over the place, Jeff jumping up and down, Ed going out into the crowd for Last Kiss.

I was impressed by the energy these old motherfuckers were still able to summon.

2000 Binaural tour- I love the sound of Stone's guitar. Black, DTE, Breakerfall, Brain of J, Once, I could go on. His guitar sounds beyond awesome.

2003 Riot Act tour- I don't know what he changed, but it sounds 1/4 as good. And on Black, it sounds like he's playing with a toy guitar from Wal-Mart for $16.99.

No, when I listen to Go and Breath from that tour, it sounds really bad to me. There's no intensity at all.

It's funny that you mention Blood because that and DTE are the only aggressive songs I can think of that he sang really well that tour.
    Stone Gossard...riffmeister extraordinaire!

I am a man, I am advanced.....I am the first man to borrow Stone's leather pants!

I'm going to disagree with you on Breath. There are some great versions of Breath from that tour. And unlike in 2000, he actually remembers all the lyrics.

Go, I'll give you, but it has nothing to do with Ed's voice. It's obvious to me some of those older songs (Go, RVM, even Even Flow) don't mean as much to the band any more, and they just kind of go through the motions during them. This wasn't just a product of 2003. It was that way in '06 as well.

Sometimes, I wish they'd stop playing them if they don't want to.

Really, every tour post-2000, Ed's voice has been pretty damn good.

GOOD: fresh new sound with matt cameron. Songs sound cleaner and tighter
BAD: Many older tunes lost from setlists (matt cameron new?)

Matt Cameron wasn't on Yield. Jack Irons was.

Edit: My Mistake. we're talking about touring

Riot Act tour was the greatest,Ed's voice was just....I don't know what it was,it was just perfect. The energy of the shows,Ed's hair, the amazing setlists...the greatest boots I've ever heard(Mexico City,New York,Mansfield,Yokohama,The Australian shows,Uniondale etc.)

Does the 2005 tour count as Riot Act,that was incredible too, those South American fans could teach the rest of the world a thing or two about enjoying a concert.

As for the Avacado tour, saw them in the Point in Dublin and did not live up to my expectations(hate to sound ungrateful cos I'm not)which I think stemmed from just how great the 2003 shows were. I dunno, hope they they worry more about just making a good, honest album and tour with the next one rather than 'making their best album since Ten and VS.!' as was the tagline for that album and tour. Not to bring their integrity into question,I just think they're happier doing what they want to do with their music and judging by a lot of the 2006 shows(Reading being a notable exception) they need some sort of morale boost.

    complete agreemant here, Carlos D

As stupid as it may sound, and I know it does, but if Avocado was not promoted like it was, I probalby would like it a lot more. (Pearl Jam always was understatement to me.)

If Eddy didn't please the crowd like he does now, I would like the shows better. (I want them all to turn away from the crowd and play an intense song.) The 2007 shows were going through the motions, if not to say making some money in Europe whilst the dollar is still so weak. (ok, thats too much here. PJ will never sell out!)

I became a fan during a festival and they did barely move. They made sound. Great sound. It was in 2000. (but I love the riot act tour even more, what a triumphal procession)

Well Riot Act is their worst album...With that there can be no doubt.

As for the 2003 tour. I thought it was sloppy to be honest, lots of errors (mainly the music) Ed did sound fantastic, but his band let him down. I think the random setlists & huge catalogue of songs they could play meant they were under-rehearsed. Also I can't stand the 2003 Boots. Its far too lively, and in your face, there's no breathing room...Listen to any RVM, Go, Last Exit from this tour, there's no intensity, and you can't hear Cameron at all

Roll on 2006. They were a lot tighter, though Ed possibly didn't sound quite as good. The boots sounded great again.

Try the transition from being married to not being married.

That (and Roskilde) made the 2000 tour pretty hard on Ed, I'm thinking.

    ...funny post, a true coincident,
cause I just now finished to listen to Mansfield july11 2003.
What a great bootleg! What a sound and energy and great experiment.

I love the riot act! I never questioned it and inhaled it deeply.
it actually helped me alot in troubled times to get clear again.

    binaural and riot act.
to me also a perfect follow up.

    Both tours were also fantastic
To me 2000 and especially 2003 just rule, although to me they just get better and better as longer they perform together.
it is already so close to perfection but they manage it to just beat it another time and another time.
So viva also 2006 and 2007
    - just 2005 I couldn't grap.

    and:
I like the saying of Solat13.

I just would change it in:
...to a happy smokey!!! :) who is happy in his own skin now and picks his bottles here and then to salute to fine people and a wonderful planet.
