Considering switching his number 23 to 6 in honour of Jordan. Do you buy? Or is it just a marketing ploy to sell more crap.

eh, i think it's just his way of deflecting his contract talk. gives the media a chance to focus in on something else for a few days.

and honestly, i agree with him.

the NHL did it with gretzky, why can't the NBA do it with jordan?

    I just heard LeBron's comment ..

"He (MJ) was a pioneer, he laid down the foundation for the rest of us ..."

Slightly myopic view of the history of the NBA, me thinks.

I don't disagree that the number should be retired, and I think it's a great idea. It's just Lebron's ego, whether deserved or not, is bigger than his bank account. Suggest retiring No. 23, and I'm sure every player, and the league, would commit. But to say "if I'm not going to wear No. 23, then nobody else should be able to wear it" just reeks of arrogance.

Jason Richardson said he's be all for giving up No. 23 and that the NBA should have retired it a long time ago, but I don't think it's Lebron's place to tell Jason Richardson he needs to give it up. That's for Richardson to decide.

Just my opinion on how I took that statement...

Yeah ... and LeBron was hyping this up after the game, calling it one of the top ten plays of all time ... I'm sure Varejao, LeBron's teammate, was really happy that LeBron was pimping up D Wade's posterization of him.

I guess he forgot about the major problems of the NBA in the mid to late 70's and how if Bird and Magic didn't come along they'd still be playing their Finals games on tape delay.

Have fun in New York next year.

Whenever a star switches his number a discount(or something)should be given to all the people who bought his jersey. I would hate to spent $50-75 on a jersey and then the next year they switch numbers.

    Basketball is so lame.

I tend to think it's a merchandising ploy. I think Jordan was probably the best, but Magic and Bird did more to draw people into the NBA, just my opinion...

they had some good teams in the late 80's early 90's (Nance, Daugherty, Price, Harper), but they ran into the Bulls.

I'd say those teams were more balanced, better overall talent then what they have now. West is a head case, Shaq is washed up.

Surprised everyone is hating on Lebron so bad in this thread. He's a pretty good guy and is as good of a role model and player that anyone could ask of so far. :problem:
