Im bummed that the only place near me he is playing is the gay tweeter center :( I've always envisioned seeing him in some small dark bar ..
  • Wow - I'm glad I came over here to this forum. I noticed yesterday on my way home that David Gray is playing here in Portland soon and was wondering who he is. Now I'll go check him out.

    Thanks!

I saw him in a small dark bar last year in Los Angeles.

You need to come out to California. :D

Can't go wrong with Seattle either! What school?

I'm clicking my heels now and wishing you here. :D

One of the most fun road trips I ever had was renting a huge U-Haul trailer and bringing my parents' stuff from Pennsylvania to California...packed up everything they owned on that trailer and made it here without incident...just saying... :)

Geez, what better place for an aspiring musician than Seattle?! 8-)

You could always make the trek minimalist style...ie, sell or give away all but your most important possessions where you are now and then start fresh whenever you arrive where you are going. That's what I did when I went to college (though I was only traveling about an hour) and it proved to be pretty liberating.

Although my vote is that you find a massage therapy school close to where I am.

Cortiva is the best I've found so far.. loved the Seattle campus.. oddly enough none in California :( As far as getting rid of stuff.. i'm all about it.. i'm young so i haven't acquired too much shit yet..but all the stuff i DO value is very hard to pack (ie, my pc, pearl jam & other posters, random things from the art gallery i used to work at ) but even so.. i could probably pack the pc with me on a plane or just transport it very carefully in my car..so as soon as my taxes come back, the liberation shall begin  "But how do you paint it when it's got no form" Your thread inspired my David Gray kick this eve..

Cortiva does have a good reputation. If you have visited the campus and loved it, shouldn't that about cement it? Or are there other considerations in the equation?

How young are you? My suggestions...trade in your PC and get a laptop...ship the posters packed very carefully in tubes (would only cost you a couple bucks each, and you could combine some together in tubes in you have a lot)...or alternately buy a large portfolio, lay them flat, and they can be carried easily in a car. Don't know about the art gallery stuff though. :D

Wow, you must be a fan if you're citing "Tell Me More Lies"! This thread is actually quite old, but I've been stuck on his version of "Song to the Siren" as well as his new album lately. :)

How excited you must be. Congrats!

Don't leave the posters in tubes too long...it's hard to get them flat for framing if you do. It's actually safer to have them in a portfolio, you just have to be careful about putting them in there if you decide to go that route.

No bullshit indeed. I remember not too long ago reading a list of the top active songwriters that had him #3 behind Dyland and Van Morrison. A bit of a stretch perhaps, but certainly deserving of high praise!

Definitely get the new album. I got lucky and found a copy on vinyl for less than $10. 8-) You'll love Jackdaw, Kathleen, and Stella the Artist.

I'll always remember "Please Forgive Me" as the first song that got everyone on their feet at the first DG show I went to (back in 2000...God I feel old).
