Why do people leave bands and not tell the other members?

I dont get it. Obviously if there was a falling out, I understand, you wouldnt want to talk with them again. But with the Aerosmith it seems like Steven just wants to move on. Perry hasnt mentioned anything about band tensions. Obviously Steven had a very public and painful episode when he fell off that stage, but other than that no one has said anything about the band fighting. Steven isnt returning their phone calls. If he wants out of the band, why not just call his mates up and say "I'm done"? I dont get it.
The Audioslave break up was similar. The band seemed to be getting along, no reports of major tension. Then one day, Cornell, just up and tells some radio station that the band is done or at least that he is out. He didnt call the band up and from what i remember reading, he never did call them up. He just did it all through the press.
Whats with this covert method of breaking up the band? Obviously if some band member had done something so horrible that you could never forgive them for it, I can understand then, that you wouldnt ever want to talk to those folks again. But there is no indication any of that occured in Audioslave or Aerosmith

really no excuse though when youre talking about grown men... the whole reason you should never get into a music venture strictly for business IMO

Ain't gonna be any middle anymore.
but the point is, surely a press release to their loyal fanbase would be the right thing to do??
The thing is that the press jump all over these things straight away and don't give the bands time to get an official press release together first.
