Sorry, but since you are blatantly asking for opinions I will flat out tell you that I feel sorry for your son.

And I thought nothing could be worse than "Vedder". Yikes.

you do realize everyone will call him Luke for short....

I know some people that named their kids Talladega and Bristol -- Lukin is kind of along those lines too (just to give a bit of perspective to what you are asking).

Weird names (and to a lesser degree stupid parents who spell their kids common names oddly in an attempt to be original) are really hit or miss. I'm fully against them but that's just me. Lukin isn't so bad because you can call him Luke but you will always know that you named him after a PJ song and that might bother you later on.

    Just my completely worthless opinion.

edit: Congratulations on the son BTW. Wasn't trying to bring you down -- kids are lots of fun.

    That's obvious.

I must have misunderstood. I thought he wanted opinions on what he named his kid, not what he would be called.

Happy for your new baby boy! Enjoy him for sure no matter what his name is. All kids have nicknames, and I'm sure his will be Luke or something to that effect. I love the story and love that he is loved. :)

Congratulations to you and your wife on your new arrival :P :P :P

I really like the name, it's come across as very strong and powerful. As someone who had an unusual first name growing up I can tell you that he may hate it for a few years (during the tween/early teens), but then hopefully, like me, he will mature and come to love and appreciate it.

Am I a huge dork for naming my child after a song or is it a kick-ass name like I think it is?

With all due respect, this is one of the most insane things I've ever heard in my life. Lukin? I could see a Beatles fan naming their daughter Lucy, Michelle or Rita. I could see a Michael Jackson fan naming his son Ben. But Lukin is a horrible name first name to have. I know Jeremy is off-limits for PJ fans because he kills himself in the end. But LUKIN??? Well at least you didn't name him Boom or Johnny Guitar.

i think it's awesome. look, if he doesn't like it then he can just shorten it to luke.

look people, it's their decision to name their kid that. if you don't agree with it, then that's your opinion. you don't need to bash her.

Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

    CONGRATULATONS!!!! :D

    And I think it's a good name.
  • I love it. Don't listen to these naysayers. At least you think your kid is unique enough to deserve a unique name. This world does not need any more Michaels, Williams, Justins, Davids, etc.

My sister-in-law's name is Kim. My own wife calls her by her last name because we know so many Kims that it is hard to differentiate.

    Congratulations.
