Am I a huge dork for naming my child after a song or is it a kick-ass name like I think it is?

Sorry, but since you are blatantly asking for opinions I will flat out tell you that I feel sorry for your son.
And I thought nothing could be worse than "Vedder". Yikes.
Horrible name
It's like naming your kid apple or espn

cherish every moment.
Well it's his child and he can name that child whatever he wants. I wouldn't have done it but if there was no PJ relationship would you still have objected? have you had to name a child as yet?
It may seem odd at first but what appears to be odd names grow into something fantastic as that child's personality falls into place with said name. More important than any name given, love that child with ALL your heart and soul.

I love it! I really did not think about that. I guess I should have gave some history... My wife and I did not want to know the sex of the baby before birth, so we had to come up with two names. She loved the name Lucas, I was not crazy about it. One day while we were driving we were playing the name game. Saying names for everything we saw. She grabbed one of my bootlegs, and said "What about Lukin?" We kept talking about it and trying different spellings, and decided to keep it the same. I know it is a last name, and the song really has no relevance(though I do love the song, and it was awesome to hear in philly a week before he was born, he held out and let me go on Saturday as well!)... but we love it.
I was looking for opinions and maybe bragging a little bit about being a first time DAD! It is a great feeling, even with all the (c)rap... Thanks for your opinions, the positive feedback and all the wishes of luck.

Edit: Just threw this out there for any haters who only associate that great name with PJ.
Congrats on being a dad OP
Sammi: Wanna just break up?
Seems even more appropriate now that I've read a story behind it and it appears to be a more popular than i thought. A big congratulations on being a first time Dad I hope there's many more to come.
PS I'm liking it More and More
Peace

On a side note, My little nephew initials are LBC. My sis is a PJ fan too, but this is rather a cool coincidence.

you do realize everyone will call him Luke for short....

Weird names (and to a lesser degree stupid parents who spell their kids common names oddly in an attempt to be original) are really hit or miss. I'm fully against them but that's just me. Lukin isn't so bad because you can call him Luke but you will always know that you named him after a PJ song and that might bother you later on.
Just my completely worthless opinion.
edit: Congratulations on the son BTW. Wasn't trying to bring you down -- kids are lots of fun.
Congrats on the baby

That's obvious.
I must have misunderstood. I thought he wanted opinions on what he named his kid, not what he would be called.
I really like the name, it's come across as very strong and powerful. As someone who had an unusual first name growing up I can tell you that he may hate it for a few years (during the tween/early teens), but then hopefully, like me, he will mature and come to love and appreciate it.
im fond of Orange.
I'd have to agree with metsfan
With all due respect, this is one of the most insane things I've ever heard in my life. Lukin? I could see a Beatles fan naming their daughter Lucy, Michelle or Rita. I could see a Michael Jackson fan naming his son Ben. But Lukin is a horrible name first name to have. I know Jeremy is off-limits for PJ fans because he kills himself in the end. But LUKIN??? Well at least you didn't name him Boom or Johnny Guitar.
