Am I a huge dork for naming my child after a song or is it a kick-ass name like I think it is?

Baby boy by the way. Born this past Wed the 4th...

Sorry, but since you are blatantly asking for opinions I will flat out tell you that I feel sorry for your son.

And I thought nothing could be worse than "Vedder". Yikes.

I like it. It stands alone as a nice name even without any PJ association.

Well it's his child and he can name that child whatever he wants. I wouldn't have done it but if there was no PJ relationship would you still have objected? have you had to name a child as yet?

It may seem odd at first but what appears to be odd names grow into something fantastic as that child's personality falls into place with said name. More important than any name given, love that child with ALL your heart and soul.

I love it! I really did not think about that. I guess I should have gave some history... My wife and I did not want to know the sex of the baby before birth, so we had to come up with two names. She loved the name Lucas, I was not crazy about it. One day while we were driving we were playing the name game. Saying names for everything we saw. She grabbed one of my bootlegs, and said "What about Lukin?" We kept talking about it and trying different spellings, and decided to keep it the same. I know it is a last name, and the song really has no relevance(though I do love the song, and it was awesome to hear in philly a week before he was born, he held out and let me go on Saturday as well!)... but we love it.

I was looking for opinions and maybe bragging a little bit about being a first time DAD! It is a great feeling, even with all the (c)rap... Thanks for your opinions, the positive feedback and all the wishes of luck. :D

There are dozens of people on facebook with the first name Lukin, including this guy.

    Not so unusual.

Edit: Just threw this out there for any haters who only associate that great name with PJ.

pj related or not I still woulda objected to the name. Naming your kid after someones last name and pj song is a bit odd. Kinda like naming your kid brooklyn or something.

Congrats on being a dad OP

Seems even more appropriate now that I've read a story behind it and it appears to be a more popular than i thought. A big congratulations on being a first time Dad I hope there's many more to come. :)

PS I'm liking it More and More :D

I wouldn't do it personally, but it is far from bad. It's not like you called him Rats or Whipping.

On a side note, My little nephew initials are LBC. My sis is a PJ fan too, but this is rather a cool coincidence.

I like it. When he's older people will more than likely call him Luke so that's not really unusual.

I agree with the above poster that people are gonna call him "Luke". Luke has a few variations...I know some kids who are officially named "Luke" and some named "Lucas" and are called Luke for short anyway. I think it would be pretty cool to be "Lukin". It's unique.
