I loved the acoustic shows with Dulli earlier this year. IThe stripped down shows really showcased his voice. I've been blessed to have seen Lanegan 3 times this year!

Dollar Bill from the Athen show earlier this year.

We shouldn't have too long to wait. This was posted on Mark's MySpace page last November:

"Following the conclusion of this tour, Dulli will begin work on a new Twilight Singers album; while Mark Lanegan has an upcoming project with Soulsavers and will begin work on his first solo album in five years."

The acoustic tour with Dulli is over, the Soulsavers album is out, all that's left on the list is the new solo album!

Well there is one thing left. He has a third album coming out with Isobel in 2010 and there will probably be a tour to support that album as well. I hate to say this but I think our wait for another solo record is going to be a little longer than we thought. I love the Gutter Twins, Soulsavers etc.... but I'm ready for a solo album. It's been way too long.
  • saw them at Bumbershoot and was blown away.
im kicking myself for missing the soulsavers here in cleveland not long ago :( i had just moved and totally blanked on the date!

Me, too. I taped the show and put it on Dime right afterward. It is still up if you want it.

I love Mark Lanegan's work. I saw the Screaming Trees a bunch of times (they were my favorite band back then), saw a couple of Mark Lanegan solo tours, saw the Gutter Twins a few times, saw the Lanegan/Dulli acoustic show, and got to see Soulsavers. Definitely one of my favorite artists.

I really don't think this is happening. I get the feeling their working relationship may be somewhat strained after the whole Bumbershoot/US dates cancellation. I enjoy their work together, but I am more than ready to finally have the chance to see Mark on the road solo. In the meantime, I'm still looking forward to seeing Soulsavers again in December. I've been fortunate enough to see Mark at least 6 times in the past year... he's definitely second only to EV in my mind.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I think it's happening. That's what I thought too until I saw this. Here is a quote from a recent interview.

How did the collaboration with Isobel Campbell come to be?
ML: I was on tour with the Queens [of the Stone Age] and got something in the mail, a piece of music she had sent to my record company and asked if I wanted to sing on it. I didn’t realize there were actually words for this piece of music already, I didn’t read the entire letter or something, and I went ahead and made up my own singing part for it, which happened really quickly. I got back to her and she ended up liking what I did and put it on an EP. We met in person a couple of times when I was up in Glasgow, hung out and became friendly. One thing led to another. I just finished working on a third record.

Here's the whole article. Its long but a pretty good read. He mentions later the album will be out in 2010.

Enjoy the shows! Caught the Soulsavers twice here in the states and got to see Mark and Greg on the acoustic tour. All incredible shows.

Going to see Mark on Tuesday!! First time since 96 with ST on the Dust tour. Really looking forward to it. I wish he'd put Leviathan in the setlist, what a really awesome song. Blues Funeral is a perfect albeit very late follow up to Bubblegum. For me he is streets ahead of EV vocally as are a few others. ML has turned his hand to such a vast number of projects and somehow it never waters down the quality of his output. He picks his covers carefully too. One of my current favourites is Soulsavers cover of Some Misunderstanding. It's beyond stunning! ;)

I have to say I was completely gobsmacked by how good ML's voice still is live this week. Last time was Screaming Trees in 96' and he has just gotten better with age not so much like a fine wine, more a matured whisky... ;)

The Blues Funeral songs are breathtaking in the flesh and his band is really tight.

    This video is brilliant...

Thanks for postring that video, I hadn't seen it before. Just saw a great comment on it: "Utterly brilliant. Mark's voice is an environment in itself; smoky, dimly lit, uncomfortable yet oh so inviting." Sums Mark up pretty well I think!

Antiquiet has 3 new covers from the Lawless soundtrack:

Blues Funeral is still my album of the year, though I think Bob Mould's new one may run it very close!

Glad to see that you made the Lanegan gig Gary, he was fantastic in Falmouth too. A good time was had by all. Looking forward to the Forum in December, and then to whatever project comes next!
