**Mark Lanegan appreciation thread**

Pretty sure we had one on the old board but I haven't see a thread around here. We need one!!!
I think Mark Lanegan is brilliant. I have been listening to Field Songs for two days straight and that album hits me every time as much as is ever has. I don't know what's gotten into me the last couple of days but I think I like it
I actually got quite irritated yesterday when a coworker came over to talk to me while Resurrection Song was playing. It was only about the 4th time I had heard it yesterday and it's not like I couldn't start over but it disrupted my zone.

  • Kudos to you for starting (or resurrecting) this thread!! I don't have much time to elaborate now, but Lanegan is for sure one of my fav singers ever. Everything the man touches turns to gold.

For me this always happens at the same point on the same record. Somebody always comes in or the phone rings or something. Who knows... maybe it's my fault for putting the record on at about the same time every day.

Lanegan though? That guy's a genius.

Not big into the Screaming Trees, but Bubblegum would have to be one of my favorite albums of all time. This guy is cruelly underrated in the music business. Absolute legend in my eyes, if only for his cameo appearances on the Mad Season album! :)

heard of them??? as a fan of both greg dulli and mark lanegan this is the perfect partnership. i saw them in july when they came down here. it had been a few years since id last seen lanegan live and so was not going to miss this opportunity. he doesnt move much(if at all) but then again he doesnt have to. its all in the voice. lanegan sounds like a boulders rumbling in a landslide. i could listen to him all day. in fact i do do that when the mood strikes me. theres nothing he does that i dont like. anyhoo...

    id post pics but apparently:

Big fan of him! My second favourite singer (the first is E.V.).
I love almost everything he has done...Screaming Trees, solo, Gutter Twins, Soulsavers etc.
Let's say knowledge is a tree, yeah.
It's growing up just like me.
  • Huge Screaming Trees fan, most underrated band of the 90's. Shame they didn't get to release their last album which would have included the amazing Ash Grey Sunday and Anita Grey, two of the band's best songs that have only been heard by online downloaders. I think the Trees simply came out at the wrong time, if they came out today with retro bands like Wolfmother out there I think the Trees psychedelic classic rock sound would have gotten over big with today's rock crowd. Just in the 90's there were so many great bands that sadly the Trees were lost in the shuffle.

I love Mark's solo stuff, namely Bubblegum. He needs to make another one asap. I also love the Soulsavers records and Mark's song with Queens of the Stone Age. I'd love to see Mark live, Soulsavers came here to LA recently but I couldn't go as I had put a lot of money into seeing U2. If Mark ever tours here solo again though I'll definitely make it out, would love to hear him play solo stuff and Trees stuff.

God, where do I start? I absolutely adore the man. As someone else said, everything he touches turns to gold!

And how could anyone not like the Trees? ;)

Saw him with QOTSA at Slane 2003, saw him on the Acoustic "Gutter Twins" tour last January, and that blew my mind so fucking much ive never recovered. Was delighted to catch that acoustic gig cos id missed 2 GutterTwins gigs in the previous 8 months!

"One Hundred Days" is easily my favourite song of his: so smooth, so dark, so depressing and uplifting. Classic Lanegan.

on top of that all, Soulsavers were just announced as support to a (sold out) Depeche Mode gig here in December....i have to find tickets to this show!

    Great thread!

Mark Lanegan is without a doubt one of my favourite singers of all time. I've been lucky enough to see him 9 times over the years:

    Screaming Trees
The Mark Lanegan Band (Bubblegum tour)
The Twilight Singers (Powder Burns tour)
    Gutter Twins
Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan twice
An Evening with Greg Dulli and Mark Lanegan (acoustic show) twice
    Soulsavers

I think we're kinda spoiled in the UK because (compared to certain other bands) it seems as though ML is always in town! The acoustic shows with Greg Dulli were amazing, especially at Union Chapel. Beautiful venue, great show and Greg and Mark came out to meet us after the show

They came through my way in the states and I FUCKING MISSED IT. God, I was pissed.

I was just listening to Whiskey for the Holy Ghost tonight at work. One of my absolute favorite albums.

    Love the man.
Was lucky enough to see him live as The Gutter Twins. Amazing performance.

I loved the acoustic shows with Dulli earlier this year. IThe stripped down shows really showcased his voice. I've been blessed to have seen Lanegan 3 times this year!

Dollar Bill from the Athen show earlier this year.

We shouldn't have too long to wait. This was posted on Mark's MySpace page last November:

"Following the conclusion of this tour, Dulli will begin work on a new Twilight Singers album; while Mark Lanegan has an upcoming project with Soulsavers and will begin work on his first solo album in five years."

The acoustic tour with Dulli is over, the Soulsavers album is out, all that's left on the list is the new solo album!

Well there is one thing left. He has a third album coming out with Isobel in 2010 and there will probably be a tour to support that album as well. I hate to say this but I think our wait for another solo record is going to be a little longer than we thought. I love the Gutter Twins, Soulsavers etc.... but I'm ready for a solo album. It's been way too long.
  • saw them at Bumbershoot and was blown away.

Me, too. I taped the show and put it on Dime right afterward. It is still up if you want it.

I love Mark Lanegan's work. I saw the Screaming Trees a bunch of times (they were my favorite band back then), saw a couple of Mark Lanegan solo tours, saw the Gutter Twins a few times, saw the Lanegan/Dulli acoustic show, and got to see Soulsavers. Definitely one of my favorite artists.

I really don't think this is happening. I get the feeling their working relationship may be somewhat strained after the whole Bumbershoot/US dates cancellation. I enjoy their work together, but I am more than ready to finally have the chance to see Mark on the road solo. In the meantime, I'm still looking forward to seeing Soulsavers again in December. I've been fortunate enough to see Mark at least 6 times in the past year... he's definitely second only to EV in my mind.
