The bowling alley was the fucking best. I hung out there every Saturday home game for a good 5 years. From what I understand, the new stadium just killed them since they were the last bar and the furthest one from the new stadium. Business was just bad. The first season took a big hit. They cut down hours big time then real late in the second they closed, I think. Timing could be slightly off but there was a times article about how bad the new stadium fucked themrival. said:
if we are talking about the same renovation I think it's been like that for a few seasons now. I remember them opening up that main level and adding glittery like columns (?) when I was still living in the Bronx. I preferred it was a dive bar. Feels like a dance club now.Cliffy6745 said:
Great day yesterday. What the hell did they do with Billy's? Did anyone have any idea there was that big of a building there. It is massive. I don't hate it, but much different than the old dive.
The biggest loss was the bowling ally bar. Loved that place before a game. My buddy and I used to have a 20 game season ticket package at the old stadium and on nights when it was a blow out or raining late in the game we used to leave the stadium and roll a couple games before heading to the subway to head home. That place was a gold mind. They must have really fucked something up to close. Guns, drugs. Who knows.
Billy's is massive. I didn't go there at all last year. The year before it was "clubish" from what I remember. I am talking it is massive now. 40 foot ceilings dozens of TVs with a good 10-20 foot projection screen on the wall. Absolutely gigantic. I definitely preferred that entire block as divesPost edited by Cliffy6745 on0 -
It could have been like this for a while and I am just an idiot but where the hell did all that space come from0 -
Impossible to get in Stan's it looked like. Got there about 2 hours early and about 10 minutes after the game and the crowd was out the door with no chance to get in. Billy's was the only option0

after a quick google search, the bowling ally closed due to suffering sales from the new stadium. which is crazy to me because that is only like an extra block that needs to be walked, haha. and another article mentions suffering sales along with the owner of the building selling the land to the city and there are plans to build a luxury hotel there. while not as interesting as a guns/drugs guess, putting a luxury hotel in that particular area of the bronx raises a few brows.
the bowling ally was there for 61 years. crazy.

tanaka tomorrow night at wrigley. have upper decks seats and with a late work night tuesday and early morning meeting on wednesday (7am, who does that?) i almost ditched my ticket, but after seeing tanaka is getting the start, this is a no brainer and just let my body suffer wednesday.

Yeah, messed up. Heard Stan's even took a hit in the beginning but they are obviously doing fine now. It's not far at all but it's not like you walk by the bars on your way in from the subway like you used to. You have to knowingly go out of the way, albeit slightly, to get there.rival. said:after a quick google search, the bowling ally closed due to suffering sales from the new stadium. which is crazy to me because that is only like an extra block that needs to be walked, haha. and another article mentions suffering sales along with the owner of the building selling the land to the city and there are plans to build a luxury hotel there. while not as interesting as a guns/drugs guess, putting a luxury hotel in that particular area of the bronx raises a few brows.
