Pretty much guarantees he'll be a Yankee or some other team in 3 years with the Padres paying half
That could happen. I read he has a 5 year opt-out.

It truly is unacceptable the Yankees were never a player for Machado...with a cheap core...in a title drought....after Boston just won.

I can’t even believe how player friendly the opt out is. be good and be gone. or be shit (like cueto and melancon) and keep raking in the dough.

Doubt he's going to get a better deal at 31 years old. He might have to stay unless they trade him.

Not the way contracts are going. Especially for the middle of the road players who are still unsigned

    Yep.
Like David Price this year with the Sox. Had an opt out, but right after the WS said he wasn't exercising it.
Was asked last week if he had any 2nd thoughts about it, his reply..."have you seen what's happening in free agency?". He wasn't getting more money elsewhere and knew it, and quite possibly that will be the case for Machado in 5 yrs.

5 years will be a new CBA, so anything can happen, but assuming people continue to age as they are, I'd agree.

Whoa. This hicks deal. I think I love the dollars but it is a little long. Still, your starting centefielders for $10mil ain’t bad

Especially when you see what free agency looks like for center fielders after this season.

No. Unless the National league gets a DH. He's better off here. Or if he has out of this world numbers

Yeah and if he does kill it, maybe they tack on a year or so to keep him...

No. If he opts out they'll let him go. And maybe give Judge or Sanchez some kind of deal instead of going through arbitration. Unless they do that now with Judge. I don't think they went to arbitration yet right? I'm thinking he's gonna get $15+ million this year if he wins arbitration

With the way the extensions are going with them, I bet they give Judge a nice $150 mil + deal after this season. Maybe 2 or 3 seasons of free agency?

It was surprising that they gave Severino an extension. That's not something they do

I have already convinced myself that the Yankees should sign Keuchel.  Don't like him, don't want him, probably not goign to be a good fit with this corner infield defense, buuuuuttt.....

Are teams not signing him because of injury problems or don't want to give him a long contract?

Soft tossing ground ball pitcher who wants a ton of money?

Rotator cuff inflammation.  That seems bad....

It'd be unique if the Yankees signed Gonzalez or Keuchel since it would give the Yankees four left-handed starters in their rotation with one of them, Happ, Paxton, and Sabathia.

I’m not a big gio fan but this would be a good move with everything going on. I’m not seeing it’s close though?
