    So as River Ave Blues points out.  While the Red Sox have the highest payroll in baseball, they beat the Dodgers and Yankees who both slashed payroll this year.

    Time for the Yankees to get back to being the Yankees.  Big offseason.

    Think I am out on Machado though.

    I'll reserve judgement until the offseason plays out, but the leaks out of the Yankees today are quite annoying.  They better be spending big this off season.

    Mr. Hankey and Shallow Hal will tell Cashman to sign Machado no matter the cost. 6 years and $300Mil is a starting point.

    Makes better sense for the Yankees to go after Machado.  But I think they go after Harper as he's more their type as he doesn't hit for average, homers, walks and strikes out a lot

    He came up as a SS but played 3B for the O's up until this season.  They moved him back to short this year and the Dodgers also used him there in the absence of Seager.

    Manny Machado is expected to be one of the most sought-after players in free agency when the market opens later this week, but it appears the New York Yankees are only moderately interested in his services.

    The Yankees' baseball operations and scouting departments spent most of last week plotting an offseason strategy, and now the team is "lukewarm" on pursuing the four-time All-Star, according to major-league sources who spoke to SNY's Andy Martino.

    New York apparently wasn't impressed with Machado's antics during the postseason, which included questionable slides, sign stealing, a run-in with Jesus Aguilar of the Milwaukee Brewers, and what looked like a crotch shake.

    Machado also admitted in an interview that hustling isn't his "cup of tea."

    The Yankees need a shortstop because Didi Gregorius is expected to miss the first half of next season after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his throwing arm in October. However, signing Machado will likely be costly.

    The 26-year-old starred for the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018, finishing the season with 37 home runs and 107 RBIs while posting a .905 OPS.
