Quintessential Pearl Jam Performances...
Caught a bolt of lightning

I have always thought there are times when PJ's energy/feelings/mood = a performance of a song that would be timeless. (sometimes coming early on when they are debuting the song or when things click....)
In other words if you only had one live performance of a song what would it be...
Here are a few of mine
Long Road - America tribute to heros (with Neil on keys...chills everytime I hear it) video is on youtube
Rearviewmirror - SNL 1994 (the look on eds face during I gather speed from you.....)
RITFW - Pink pop 1992 - building up of palm mutes during the first verse...
Save You - Live at the Show Box - December 6th 2002 (DVD) Mike gets so into it slams guitar at the end of the song......
Man of the Hour - Toronto May 10th - Eddie's Voice explodes during (and the road the old man paved....etc)
yours?????

Beat me to it. This performance of this song singlehandedly turned me from casual "maybe I'll see them if they swing by my town" to "I must see them in my home town and any other town w/in a half a day's drive" crazy head.
Yes!
Does anyone else feel like the first try/complete mess-up made the actual performance even greater?

Actually, now that I listen to it, it wasn't this performance (although this is sweet)... it was one I found on teh internets when I was a little baby college student long ago... it was just called "Porch (pearl)" and I'm not sure where it's from... but the bridge in that one is effing sick, and Ed screaming coming out of it... OMG... world's greatest performance of anything ever. "After we said all that... there's just one more thing... I... need to say........... 1 2 3 what the fuck is this world..."

I agree with the person who said Black @ Benny Hall
i know a lot of people get tired of betterman..but this was the greatest song i think i've seen live
the intro is killer with the lighters, and great sing a long w/ "it's fuckin beautiful"
here's a good shot that pans out

Buffalo - 2010
"I am a Patriot"- Cleveland 2003. Just Matt and Eddie. Riveting.
"Go"- Atlanta '94- "This song's for Kurt." -ev
"Garden"- same show Atlanta '94
"Present Tense"- Cleveland 2003 again. I wanted to find a '96 performance that was better but the way Matt tears thru this song during the end jam makes Iron's performance sound tepid.
"Oceans"- St. Louis 7-02-98.
"Light Years"- Chicago 2003, maybe? Well, it's 2003 sometime. Has the tag, "When I dream of you, you're near my heart."
"Bleed For Me"- Toledo 2004.
"Masters of War"- 10/25/03 Bridge Benefit. Is that the version on the Fahrenheit 9/11 soundtrack? Because that's the one I mean. And yeah, it's actually better then the '92 version from the Dylan tribute. His voice is way cooler and you get the entire band backing it up.
"Know your Rights"- Pittsburgh 2003.
"Release"- Gonna go with Toronto 2005. Eddie hits all the notes in the chorus with some added guitar distortion to kick it up. And there is a vulnerability during the verses I hadn't heard before. Being this was the first tour he wore those in-ear monitors (he once stated they don't seem rock n' roll to him), it may have helped him realize more subtilties with his vocal performance.
Love that version of that tune... although I'm always annoyed by that dog bark after "Number 2" (I think)
