The Better Show: 10/30 vs. 10/31

From reading the fanviews, there seems to be a debate for best show of all-time between these two:
10/30 was the perfect show. tight, explosive and raw. 10/31 was a marathon with lots of surprises....

10/30 wins by a nose.

I also think 10/27 was better than 10/31 by a nose (immortality, nothing man, supersonic, and just the general crowd energy), but 10/30 def takes the cake!

10/30 wins for me over 10/31

    I would rate them:

    10/30
    10/31
    10/27
    10/28

But each was awesome in their own way.

i agree with all of this.

well..i wouldn't qualify 10-28 as awesome. if it were a one off, i would have been happy as a pig in shit, but it was by far the weakest night of the run. doesn't come remotely close to the other 3.

  • in my opinion... Even though halloween was a great fucking show... 10/30 was better... They played a lot of my favorite songs and musically they souunded soo good.. And everyone there were in high spirits... I cant wait for all 4 boots

I vote for 10/31 because that is the one I attended ;)

I prefer to believe the other shows were inferior. . .

    100% agree
    friday
    tuesday
    saturday
wednesday (this was still a great show-the encores were insanely good)

    truth
I get why people love saturday- a 3+ hour show, the atmosphere, the devo thing, crown of thorns, balloons etc.

but tuesday and friday had the best setlists-no question
personally, id trade the rare songs played tues, wed and friday for the ones they played Sat

friday was just one of those nights, like hartford last year, were the crowd, the band, the songs were all in the right place for the entire show

Dude... they came out dressed as DEVO! It was the second longest show every played if not the longest! They closed the Specturm! Oh... and did I forget to mention that Hot chicks were dressed in TINY CUSTOMS!

Come on now... is it really that hard: 10/31

  • i went to 10/28, 10/30 and 10/31 and i definitely have to say 10/30 was the best. it might have helped that i won the fucking lottery and was front row stones side. i couldn't believe how good that show was and where i was rocking out to it from.

I was at both. I LOVE No code and it seemed like a No Code show on the 30th which was AWESOME but the 31st was still better all around.
  • I went to 10/30 and 10/31. I have to say 10/30 was the best show I've ever been to. 10/31 was absolutely fun with a lot of unique memories and was absolutely a great show, but if we are rating the setlist/crowd/energy/performance, etc at the show... I have to say 10/30 wins for me.

I think Friday's set was just a tiny bit better but for me, Halloween was the best night. The set was really great, the crowd (at least what I saw) was great, and it really felt like a big farewell party for that awesome building. So, in terms of overall experience, 10/31 wins by a small margin in my mind.
  • I only went to the 10/30 show and will say that it is the best show I have seen period. Pearl Jam or otherwise. It was my first time at a Philly show and it topped anything I've seen at MSG.
  • 10/30 was the perfect show. tight, explosive and raw. 10/31 was a marathon with lots of surprises....

    10/30 wins by a nose.
I agree, and it is because of the energy from the crowd and the guys that gives the nudge...
  • 10/30 was fucking amazing! Pearl Jam is always on point but they were in the fucking zone on Friday!!

best concert i have ever been to period!
  • Have touched on this in other threads, but I too would place 10/30 over 10/31. The tightness of the band, setlist, crowd energy, made 10/30 perfect for me (and winning the lottery!). 10/31 was an awesome, once-in-a-lifetime extravaganza, but falls a notch lower overall.

I've been to over 40 shows now and the only one that I wouldn't give up being at over the 10/30 show is the Vic show. And that show was all about the venue. The setlist of the 10/30 show was by far the best I've ever seen, and I have seen some great shows.

To me it is not even close - 10/30 beats 10/31 by a landslide...

  • How can you compare any of the first 3 shows against a 42 song and 3 hour and 40 minute setlist? 3 songs that have never been played live before, plus Whip It dressed as Devo? It's the longest show time wise and with the most songs they have ever played in one night in a building with such a tremendous musical history.

  • i was talking to my brother about this and we both decided that all 4 nights were just like 1 long extended concert. that's the best way to describe them.
  • I probably said wow numerous times during the course of each show since all were awesome. I'd vote the following:

10/30 - Breath, the energy during Jeremy helped
10/31 - just for the set and the historical context of the show
10/27 - just the way they blazed through the set, the songs I heard

But for me, it's like a pennant race that goes down to the wire and three teams are separated by three games when it's done, that's how close it is in my book.

  • I know you're just comparing these two particular shows but for me the entire run should be viewed together - hope that makes sense. Each night was an integral part of the entire show - which lasted four evenings in total. Sort of like the posters were four unique to the evening but made up one entire picture when put together. I liked certain aspects of each one over the other but each stood on their own strengths and were incredible. I hope this comes as a four package set to make the picture complete. I'm still coming down from it all.

  • Easy: LA 3. Temple of the Dog reunion, crowd going apeshit, Cantrell on Alive. Faithfull. Footsteps.

No, wait. LA 4. Long Road. Nothingman. All Those Yesterdays. Present Tense. Love Reign O'er Me. Spin the Black Circle. Crown of Thorns. Kick out the Jams w/ Cantrell.

10/30 was to me the best show i have been to period and i have also been to a few classic one's 8-) ..
jesus greets me looks just like me ....
  • I'd have to say the only lacking thing on Saturday night was the crowd energy was not as it was previous nights. It was just a hair under. I think this is from all the out-of-towners on the last night.

NOW, before i get crucified on the "best fans," i simply attribute this to the Spectrum not holding a special place for the non-philly attendees. I went to 3 shows and the video they show at the beginning for example really touched me and I'm sure most Philadelphians. All the things Eddie said about the venue and the memories he shared about growing up watching Dr. J, etc.

I'm not saying Philly fans are superior, just the closing of the Spectrum fueled the fire of the crowd on the nights previous.

Either way, it was quite an experience.
