Why must Bono make it so well known and public that he is doing charity work.
It's like he wants people to see how much of an angel he is so they will buy his bands albums.
I think he is a bit of an egomaniac and I'd spray fly spray on him because he is the fly.

Why is Edge so highly regarded, he is overrated, his guitar work does not inspire me, I think he should be pushed off the Edge and change his name to Fall Off.

Yeah but I meant as in they are always on TV, you always see Bono on TV and at press conferences.
PJ keep it on the lowdown, they only get mentioned because of media, where as Bono set up the media with press conferences.

I haven't seen U2 or Bono on tv more than once in the last 2 years, and the once was a commercial for their new album like PJ did with target.

    why he is an egomaniac!!!

becos he has done more for other people and to fight poverty and other important international issues than you will ever be capable of doing. he could sit in a mansion counting his money and paying 18 year old escorts to blow him all day, but he doesnt. instead, he puts himself out there and wears his heart on his sleeve, knowing that it costs him a lot in the way of respect from people like you but willing to pay that price anyway in order to support causes that need recognition from people with his kind of visibility and audience. you would think that of all people, pearl jam fans would understand and respect that.

I have to totally agree i do respect the man for that i don't attend their shows anymore i did yrs ago but still i have to give him props ....

The Joshua Tree is the only think I own, and further more ever will own. Considering that, I seldomly listen to that album.

To sum it up; I don't like them either.

You're free to like what you like but this is like the people from our generation who only bought Ten, Nevermind, and Core. You're missing the best of what U2 has to offer if you only listen to the Joshua Tree.

Achtung Baby is my favorite album of all time by any band. Anyone who listens to Until the End of the World and then says The Edge sucks doesn't like music.

As much as I don't like U2, I've come to the conclusion that Bono isn't that much of an ass-hat. Sure, he may get a bit annoying...but he's passionate about the things he promotes, and his heart is in the right place. At least he uses his position of being a well known person to voice these issues and make people aware. People will buy into things that celebrity, or people they like say...so he uses that to his advantage. He's pro-active nonetheless.

You're probably right...but to me U2 isn't worth any more exploring. I've heard other stuff besides Joshua Tree and it's nothing that moves me.

They may have better stuff to offer, but the point is that I don't like their style of rock music. It's a little to overblown for my liking. I'm not one to tell people their stupid for listneing to music I don't like. U2 definitely has something to show for themselves. But I wouldn't be seen at a U2 concert, or buying their albums because I'd rather spend my time, money, and attention on something else.

I hate how they over blow their concerts with all these stage set ups and special effects.
Keep the focus on music I say.
Oh and one thing I agree with Bono is what he said about Chris Martin live on air radio.

  • U2 are my favourite band BUT when it comes to live performances & setlists Pearl Jam is the No.1 in the world for variety unlike lame U2 who no longer take risks & just go through the motions with same setlists night after night.

  • Most of their early work is fantastic (October was dreadful) and used to be an avid fan (I have pretty much everything they released on vinyl up to, and including, the Rattle and Hum singles).but my interest in them has declined ever since Achtung Baby. I saw them on the Zoo TV tour and whilst they were enjoyable, it wasn't the incredible experience that I was expecting.

I couldn't get into "All That You Can't Leave Behind", saw them again on tour and found it incredibly dull. I was about 15 feet away from the stage and it was just.....watching a band perform songs. There was more emotion in the first 45 seconds of my first Pearl Jam gig than in the whole of that night.

Still, I gave them a try on their next album, ordered it from Amazon, hated it, sent it back. And that was the end of my interest in U2. I've only heard snippets of the last two albums and there hasn't been anything to rekindle my interest.
It's gonna be a glorious day...

  • There are so many bands that play the same set list over and over yet it seems that only U2 gets any slack for it on this board. I'd say that the fact that they mix in 2 or 3 different songs makes them different from bands like the Foo Fighters, Green Day, STP, Metallica, AC/DC, etc etc. I google set lists now and again and found it amazing a band like the Foo Fighters played the same exact set all tour.

I don't think the stage set up is meant to distract from the music. I went to the show and its not like people were ohh and awwwing like it was a special effects spectacular. It WAS a way to keep your eyes focused on the stage area when you are so far away.

I like them, but I'm not willing to shell out $110 now for a show in July at the Linc. I would much rather see them do a stripped down show like Pearl Jam and just play their music without all the hoopla.

While I agree that he has done plenty of charitable work for a great deal of people. I have a hard time with the band trying to avoid paying their share of taxes to their homeland of Ireland. A little hypocritical don't ya think?
