EXACTLY.. this is about the Spectrum and its history in Philly, not Pearl Jam

if that were the case, why was this billed as a "pearl jam" concert, and not a "farewell to the spectrum" event featuring pearl jam?

what's the point of having bon jovi (especially) and billy joel at a pj show? how many in the crowd are actually fans of these guys? we all bought tickets to see pearl jam.
i'm more a fan of popular bands.. like the bee-gees, pearl jam
  • PLEASE DO NOT BELIEVE THESE RUMORS. THIS IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN LAST GIANTS STADIUM SHOW. ALMOST THE EXACT SAME WORDING. JUST ABOUT ANY GUEST WOULD BE A GREAT SUPRISE IF ITS UNEXPECTED, BUT IF ITS EXPECTED AND DOESNT HAPPEN IT HURTS THE SHOW FOR YOU.

Check your ticket stub, it states Pearl Jam with Special Guest.... that's what this would be.

Bon Jovi and Bill Joel both have a history in Philadelphia and the Spectrum... nothing to do with similar crowds.

And you would see Pearl Jam, possibly play a longer show than anticipated... don't see how you are getting anything but what you paid for and more.

It would be cool for Bruce on Bon Jovi to perform, but Billy Joel really has no cred....no old school cred, no novelty cred and no "rock legend" cred.

"special guest" refers to the opening act, which wasn't announced at the time the tickets were sold.

You sure about that???? Could also refer to the Spectrum and Pearl Jam not deciding on the nature of the shows (whether or not there would be an opening act, or special guest during the performances, etc.).....

So you'd prefer a standard 2 1/2 hour pearl jam show instead of a 5 hour marathon? cuz theres no way they'd play for 5 hours without any special guests
  • I heard Boom and Clarence Clemmons are going to wrestle for 5 minutes as the first encore.

I've had tons of concert tickets that say, "special guest." It's usually just the opener. I'm sure the tix said special guest because they hadn't lined up an opener yet. Pearl Jam fans read into things too much. I'm sure something, though, something crazy will happen. Bring on Halloween.

Oh, and I'm going to see Pearl Jam — not bid farewell to the Spectrum. In fact, I've never been to the Spectrum. I'm going because it might be my last chance to see Pearl Jam with my best friend for a few years. It will be nice to see a historic venue before it's demolished, though.

    See you Saturday.

If you are that upset that someone like Billy joel or Bon Jovi would be on the same stage as PJ, well I`m sure you`ll be able to stand up and use the exit immediately. Enjoy the moment! If it happens it`ll be once in a lifetime! You can blog about how it sucked all day on Sunday if you so desire. Heck bring on Harry connick Jr.!!! Lets party! Life is so short, appreciate it!

Thanks for pointing that out. I thought I was going to end up at a Billy Joel show.

I'll enjoy the show. I wasn't bitching about Bon Jovi or Billy Joel — I just said I don't like them. Who cares? It's going to be a good time even if they show up. I was at VFC in 2004 when Neil Young showed up. Believe it or not, there were people near me who didn't give a shit that he was there. I was in the third row, too. Ridiculous, right?
  • I'm not buying into any of this hype for the rumored guests. If I believed all of it, then I'd just be disappointed if none if it was true. Instead, I'm just going to enjoy the show and hope it's a good one.
