When it comes to hip-hop, I pretty much stick to the Aussies these days.
Haha. Amazed to hear an American loves Aussie hip hop. I am not a fan, Aussie accents in rap sound wrong to me.
It definitely takes some getting used-to. But I dig pretty much anything coming out of Australia so much more than the US these days. Much more upbeat, overall more fun, and it isn't all about gettin' paid n' gettin' laid. There's actual substance.
Which Aussie rap groups do you listen to?
Hilltop Hoods - The Nosebleed Section is a good tune.
Funny you mention that. That is actually THE song that first got me in to checking out Aussie artists. It was in a BMX video a buddy of mine had featuring fellow Aussie flatlander Simon O'Brien. But yeah, I like the Hoods quite a bit. I'd have to say Illy is easily my favorite. Some others I get into are 360, Drapht, Bliss N Eso, Horrorshow, Thundamentals, and perhaps more R&B than hip-hip but Daniel Merriweather is great, too.

You should listen to Kendrick Lamar and Hova then.
I'm gonna have to re-examine Kendrick Lamar. I tried to get into him last summer at the advice of a couple friends, but it just didn't do much for me. I do recall his performance at the CFP National Championship was pretty decent though so I may have to give another go.
Never been a fan of Jay-Z. Although he did work on the only decent Coldplay song since X&Y.
I tried Kendrick Lamar again last night. I can't get into it. All American hip hop sounds the same anymore. Sounds like the shit you'd hear when you roll up on the trap house.

^ Its the intro with Kanye........I do not like 90% of the american hip hop and rap that is out there. But I could not stop listening to Chance the Rapper's Coloring Book. That is a brilliant record.

Modern hip hop is wayyyyyy different from the 90's heyday. You can't sample a damn song without getting sued or having to pay for it now. It was neat to hear a Cypress Hill use an Sabbath song in their music or hear PE use a James Brown beat. Hell, all of hip hop is based on a drum beat that was made famous by the JB drummer Clyde Stubblefield.
So for newer rap/hip hop I applaud them for actually having to write their own beats now.

Some of the gospel parts get old, but it all works well. First hip-hop/rap album I have actually enjoyed all the way through in a while.
