I like many others think U2 imploded after The Joshua Tree.
Makes me laugh. According to some on this forum every band implodes after one of their early albums. Some seem to think it's cool to like the old stuff.
it is ironic that it so often comes from people that act bored with pearl jam's old stuff and talk shit about those that don't care for the new stuff as not getting it or not being real fans.
I think U2 are having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that the days of the supergroups are dwindling. And they're disappointed in the "lack of enthusiasm" for lack of a better term, with their new album. I'd say No Line is probably their best album since Zooropa. I'm really in the minority because Zooropa is my second favorite U2 album after Achtung Baby.

In my U2 fan days I also thought that Zooropa was excellent. Put it behind Achtung Baby and Joshua Tree though.
