Its 1 of the few old classic arenas still standing. All the greats in sports and music have played there. Its legendary when you consider everything that has taken place there.

Is it as legendary as the Garden in NY?
    What arena would you prefer?

Considering that Jim Dolan is a scumbag, who has presided over the most disgraceful era in Knick history and a Ranger team that was so inept it missed the playoffs for seven straight seasons, the World's Most Famous Arena hype is a little much for me and I'm a New Yorker.

Both places are good places to see a show and though I've never been to the Spectrum, which is hard to believe personally, I'm sure it will be a fine venue for a show.

Not much to new add, as I agree with most folks. But here are my reasons this is gonna be a kickass week for me:

    1. I grew up with the Spectrum. My first concert ever was Fleetwood Mac when I was in fifth grade. I saw REM there in high school. I rocked out to Jimmy Page & Robert Plant ripping through a 20-minute "Kashmir," on my 17h birthday, no less. I became a diehard Flyers fan there. My autographed (Murray Craven and Kjell Samuelsson) painter's cap from a Flyers Wives Fight for Lives Carnival is hanging on a stick behind me right now. I had a basketball game on the court prior to the Sixers one night.
So while MSG is just a quick trip into the city for me now, I'd much rather go to the Spectrum

    2. Someone compared losing the Spectrum to shuttering Boston Gardens. I agree, but also want to add that this is the last of the old arenas/parks in Philly. The Vet (thank god) came down several years ago. And while the Bank and Linc are fantastic venues, they're still new to the scene. (Wachovia Center is just another bland, modern arena)

    3. This will be an insane week in the city/sports complex. Flyers and Sixers games, Eagles/Giants and the World Fuckin' Champions trying to go back-to-back. I might as well pitch a tent starting early Friday.

    4. I'm turning 29 on Saturday, and four nights of PJ seems like a damn fine way to celebrate.

    168 hours and counting! :D

This explains to me that you did not get tickets. Have some positive energy and don't piss on a parade you can't attend or understand.

Oh now let's not start that type of business again! I love NY as pretty much everyone knows, but I love Philly too. They are each great cities.

I enjoy visiting both cities , but the Philly area is home. I absolutely love the neighborhood feel of Philly...Queen Village , Northern Liberties (NoLib) , Manayunk, parts of East Falls, West of Broad, Rittenhouse Square area, etc... I also love that Philly, at 1.4 mill , is nowhere near the size of NYC. I enjoy the differences of both cities and have no envy of NYC. It's also nice having one arena complex for all four major sports franchises; especially one just off I-95 or I -76. About the Spectrum ,as someone who is 6'2" , I am glad that I spend PJ shows on my feet. The seating is kind of cramped . Also, I had forgotten no cupholders were present until I had a seat in 209 for Bruce over two shows last week.

hmmm...who has negative energy? i asked a reasonable question. i have never been to the spectrum and was just trying to figure out why people were acting like it was the roman colliseum coming down.

for the record, i didnt even try for tickets. i had other things that i chose to spend my money and vacation time on. if i had either available for next week, i would be off to new orleans for halloween/voodoo festival.

if you are going to the philly shows, i hope you have a fantastic time; just as i did at the seattle and portland shows. in the future, perhaps you should avoid making accusations about people and their intentions.

I forgot about the no cupholders. The Wach center doesn't have them either. What's up with that?

Yes the Spectrum held a lot of great memories, but it's time for it to go. And what a way for it to go... it should be amazing. Besides, did anybody see the plans for what is going in it's place? I don't know about anybody else, but I'm pretty excited. I'm down there a lot for Phillies/Eagles games and aside from McFadden's which is always a nuthouse or Chickie's and Pete's which isn't super close, it will be nice to have more stuff to do before the games that is right in the center of things.
