Hi

I became a father for the 4th time on Aug 21 (a baby boy) ........ we have problem naming him, i need some advice :? my girlfriend (who is not a fanatic jammer) wants to name him Eddie.........although I kinda like the name it makes me feel like a kind of stalker.........as I said, my gf is not a huge PJ fan.....as I am :geek: this band means the world to me, songs have been one way of coping with bad times  ....and good times too :) they've been around me for the last 18yrs +

Naming a child after your "idol" doesn't seem the right thing to do, but I can't say I don't like the name....

I'm confused here, please feel free to share your thoughts on this...........if you have any other suggestions you're more then welcome to share..........We just can't come to an agreement on this

Peace

He was born on August 21st? What have you been calling him since he was born ??? :?

Eddie is a great name .... I'm pretty sure very few peeps will see the P.J connection .... it's hardly as obvious as Lennon,Dylan or Hendrix .... I know kids with these names .... they are all brothers

Lots of people are named Eddie, And maybe down the road he'll have one more connection with his father.

If you both like the name, I don't see the problem. But you atta name him soon. By the way congrats on a full house.

  • This should really be something you should discuss with your wife, mate...
  • I went thru this with my children too (I guess most of us do). I wanted to name my son after a music hero, like Muddy, Rahsaan, Ornette, Ellington, Hendrix. Spouse said no way. Finally settled on southern city names for both youngins.

That said, Eddie is a fine name. And everyone I know named Ed is a good guy. So maybe it has some karmic weight or something.

Then again, Lukin sounds good. With Black, Rival, or Betterman as a middle name.

    Good luck!

we are discussing it, and have been for the last 8 weeks, I just came on here to maybe get a new or different perspective on the whole thing, I agree, it's not for some people unknown to me to decide on such matter, I just asked for some input :)

Well, if you agree that the issue of your recalcitrance to name your child after the lead singer of a band you are obsessed with is not for members of this message board to decide on, then our input is rendered invalid. At the risk of repeating myself, talk to the mother of your child - it should really be you two that decide such a personal and individually meaningful matter, not strangers on an online messaging board.

Well I agree on that the decision is up to us a parents, but we've come to a sort of dead end, so I just tought I'd get some new impressions to stir up the discussion a bit, if u know what I mean?

There are quite a lot of Eddies around where I live, none with any relation to PJ. It's as good a name as any.

You could always go for Boom?

A few weeks on here someone called their new daughter Evie, which I thought was a lovely name - guess you can't do that with a boy though.

If she wants the name Eddie and you like that name, then name him Eddie. It's an added bonus that it has another level of positive meaning to you, but that doesn't mean you're naming him AFTER Eddie Vedder.

Besides, it's probably just as strange to refuse a name just because your favorite singer happens to have the same name as it would be to name your kid after him. I mean, you're making this about Pearl Jam when it's not.

    Good luck and congratulations!!

  • you should go with "hank".

I don't know what you should name him... but, here are some you might want to steer clear of...
Adolph (unless you run a Meth Lab at your remote desert compound)
Usama (unless you live in Pakistan)
    Saddam (for any reason)
O.J. (unless you have access to very expensive law firms)

Eddie is a great name and like people are saying, it is not PJ related from your wife, but positive to you.
Choosing a childs' name is so hard.
Our first kid we hummed over and, and after discussing it with others, they all disagreed!!!
But we ended up ignoring them and called him Bob.
His brothers that followed are Bill, Harry and Charlie, but atleast they were named after people we knew and loved, Bob was just out of the blue.
And I figure if they hate thier names, they can always change them.
Now I just want a Fred!

    Congrats.
