1 month later, the excitement from Unthought Known has not worn off.

This just might be one of Pearl Jam's best songs EVER.....and I am starting to think it's not just the "newness" at play.

This song is the perfect Pearl Jam song. There is not a single aspect of it that i dont like.
It should be the second single from the album.

Yeah but that's such a true lyric for most people... although just like the Lyric in Save You where he sings " here hit me instead" it kinda makes me giggle, it's just so corny though this one fits to total norm for so many it's tolerable so... I still love the song.. funny someone else noticed that part..

The emotion is the key. Lyrics, Vocals, Instruments, Arrangements. Emotion. That is why we hang on to this band like a baby monkey to it's mother's teet. Nobody else conveys the feelings, emotion and passion that these fella are able to do for us daily.

Unthought Known and Force of Nature and Amongst the Waves take the best parts of Pearl Jam's best songs and combine them into really amazing songs.
I hear bits and pieces of the emotion of Corduroy, Wishlist, Given to Fly, Porch, Rearview Mirror, Dissident, Long Road.....

I think it's really cool how Ed let the guy from Incubus write the lyrics.

For the next show I attend, I will be using the Bejeweler to "bling" out a denim jacket with gems (fake) and rhinestones, and spelling out "Gems & Rhinestones" in big lettering on the back.

If Ed doesn't notice me then, he probably never will.

Great post! I could no have said it any better myself. I think all three of those songs are right up there with my favorite PJ songs ever.

what does it mean to make HAY?
It means to take advantage of favorable conditions or to seize an opportunity. The origins date back to the time when folks depended on growing their own crops for sustenance. Don't know if you are familiar with farming practices...but out here in the country we know that if you bail hay when it's wet, it can develop a mold that can sicken livestock and even kill them. Therefore, you bail hay when it's dry and you put it up to keep it dry as to prevent that from happening. Plus, if you wait too long to get your hay up, it can start to decompose and become unusable. So, that's where the expression comes from.

This is my second fav on the album. Still think Force Of Nature is the best, this is definitely second though. Who knows, in a few months it might be my fave.

Both songs are similar though in that there is a strong emotional feeling you get when listening to them. I still remember where I was when I heard the "Gems and Rhinestones" part for the first time. That perked my ears up big-time. One of those, grab the cd case and see what song this is, kind of moment.
Forced to endure, what I cannot forgive.
