what is the 10C lottery worth to you

I was fortunate enough to win the 10C lottery in San Diego (thanks 10C). front row, right in front of Mike. When we got down to our seats, there was a guy making his way through the aisle offering people money to switch seats with him. we were offered $1500 to give up our seats. here is the catch. he did not want us to move to the back of the arena, just to the end of the aisle... roughly 10 seats away. it was his wife's birthday and he had some connection to mike. my brother and I were blown away that someone was offering so much to move just a short distance, but at the same time there was no doubt that we were not going to give up our seats. in fact, no one did. not one person took him up on his offer. i think it says a lot about how dedicated a group we are as fans.

we, jokingly, wondered if this was some sort of 10C agent similar to Slugworth making an offer for our everlasting gobstoppers.

would you have done the same thing?

$1500 to move 10 seats??? I'd take it and make a down payment on a 10/31 poster on ebay. Seriously, if the guy really wasn't being skeevy you'd be 1) still enjoying the show from better seats than you had coming in, 2) making some MAD cash to cover expenses and, 3) helping a fellow fan out. I'd do it in a second.
I smile, but who am I kidding...

Well, in LA 3 I was offered $2,500 for my second row tickets. I thought it was a little much for not being front row, needless to say I didn't take the money.

I gotta admit, i would be tempted to trade front row tickets and $1500 in cash for last row tickets.

That would pay for the trip and Christmas vacation.

Agreed . . . if it was legit, I would have done it in a heartbeat. If it was to move to the nosebleeds at the back, then I probably wouldn't.

What if the fella was some sort of Mike Stalker?...I'd be afraid of any possible liability or personal responsibility if the guy did something dodgy.

I'm a strict non-scalp guy... but darn, that's a lot of money to still see the show from relatively the same spot.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

he was not skeevy at all. he did have something to give to mike (cd, letter... i'm not sure) that he was able to give to him during the show. Mike gave him something back later on in the show. Ed also gave his wife a birthday shout out right after the lulu singalong. at the end of the show they were probably happy they did not drop the $1500.

if they were undercover they definitely fooled me.

if i ever managed to get myself up there.. there's no way id move an inch :D Money is worthless compared to how that must feel  If fourth row center was ethereal .. i can't imagine what first row must be like ..
  • I don't see how this is scalping at all.

In scalping, you're the the one soliciting others and it is before you even enter the arena. Most scalpers don't even go to the shows they are selling for (unless they are just stuck with extra tix).

Once inside, if someone, asks you to switch seats and offers you money to so, that is your prerogative and your own business.

i think 10c would still frown upon that.
  • I can't imagine giving up front row for any amount.

  • I've already had front row twice so I'd have helped the guy out and
filled my pocket at the same time. I might have even tried for more.

Probably, and not saying I would do it (Front row is priceless).

I just don't really see it being the same as scalping.

this is pretty much exactly what we thought. front row was insane. i have seen roughly 30 shows and have been as close as 2nd row (pre-10C lottery), but never right up front. I'm not sure what I would have done with the money that would have made me as happy as the show did.

I can't honestly say that 1500 is worth giving up that spot... to me getting to be thaat close is worth more than money, hence all the time I've pent waiting all day in line for a spot in the pits when they're open to us.. and EVERY time I do that I end up right in front of Stone it never fails, even when I went to Bonnaroo last year that's where I ended up, and that was with a 12 year hiatus from gettign to see the band.... It always seemed funny to me now it just seems that it tends to be my own personal PJ tradition that I end up on Stone's side every time.. But I couldn't give up those seats for even 10,000 dollars. Besides I would be afraid that it WAS a TC sting.. lmao I know I'm paranoid sometimes but, my membership here means the world to me, and I love that we GET those opportunities like that so... can't say I'd trade.

    i wouldn't take the money!

i think he would have gone higher. he went from $1000 to $1500 in about 30 seconds. he really wanted to move. it did not really matter to us, since we had no intention of moving.

i'd have done it in a heartbeat, but only cash in hand. esp if the guy was just at the end of the row. hell, i'd have swapped out for nosebleeds for that kind of money.

I'm usually skeptical of something that seems too good to be true. I wouldn't have done it. With my luck I'd get in trouble and kicked out or something.
  • It was Dirty Frank!!!

There was a guy at the Portland show that "bought up" seats. Or was it Seattle? I don't remember, but he did find a buyer. Some guy from NY, I believe.

I have to say, it would be awfully hard not to take the cash and only have to move 10 seats left or right.

    agreed...

interestingly, im surprised no one did.

ESPECIALLY considering how far you had to move.

Think about it.... $1500 is like 6 local shows or maybe even a trip somewhere cool to see them live again.

I would taken the offer if the other person was 10C and wanted to buy up.

I wish the band would just to a GA floor and then offer 10C members the opportunity to buy either floor tickets or reserved seating by seniority. this whole lottery/seating thing has taken over the experience and when fans start dreaming about winning the lottery and then it doesnt happen, it feels like a loss.

just go GA floor and give fans the choice of GA floor or reserved wing seats.

EDIT: and again, a big thank you to the 10C for great seats in San Diego (12th row center). seats we would never have without them!

Similar for me. LA 4 was my first concert ever. I won the lottery and was 2nd row, dead center. A guy from the 6th row said that it was his wife's bday too. He offered $600 to trade seats. I just could not take him up on that...even though I could have used the $600...the concert seats just meant too much to me.

I always thought if I had far away tickets that it would be funny to go up to someone 5 rows ahead and offer the people $20 to swap seats... an easy $20 to move back just a few rows... and just do that over and over again, all the way up to the first few rows. :D
