Bicycling to Philly From Boston...(Please help)

In an effort to turn my Pearl Jam Philly weekend into an even more of an adventure, I will be riding my bicycle from Boston. I’ve planned the majority of my trip, I just need some help with roads into the city. I’ll be taking U.S. Route 202 from northern jersey into Pennsylvania, but from there I need help. I’ve only been to Philadelphia once before, and I’ve heard the warnings to stay away from North Philly. How dangerous is it? Should I stay along the river once I cross into Pennsylvania? Or take U.S. 13? Where are the terrible parts that I really need to are avoid? I’ll be on a bike with a backpack, I’m not sure if that’ll make me a target for theft or what not. What about taking a train from outside of the city to avoid all of that area? Let me know what you Phillies think. Thanks for the help.

Philly can be beautiful, staying along the river is a safe bet for the most part-
by the time you get to Philly you will probably be exhaused, the train is a good option
you're driving a fucking bike from Boston?!! like...as in pedal bike? wtf is wrong with you?!! maybe in the summer...but late Oct.?BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
i didn't even think about the october piece of the pie. no telling what weather he will run into.
should make for a good story some day.
Have a great and SAFE ride.
As far as weather goes, i'm prepared for the worst. I'm just hoping for not much rain, that may force me to drive.
i hope to see you in philly dude
My original plan was to drive down with a friend friday morning. My friend is still doing that, so I can always be picked up along the way if something goes wrong.
Even during the day? Is there a better way? What about a train from somewhere north of the city?
seriously, the ride through southern mass, CT and southern NY (depending on route) should be spectacular this time of year
good luck and I hope you have a plan to get back to Boston, the return trip is always a bitch!
Ever think of raising money for the CCFA donations per mile or something like that?
i've been trying to check your route on google maps and i think the route you're considering is outside what i know about philly. it may seem hard to believe, but there are parts of philly that look like the land time forgot. i mean you could forget that you were in the USA. it is bad. so yes, even during the day, there are parts of philly you don't want to be in, period. from my experiences, you will be west of the worst are, referred to as Northeast Philly. that being said, there are parts of broad that are also pretty bad. you should ask someone who goes to temple university. if you can make it to the temple campus, you'll probably survive the rest. you want to know how bad it is north of temple on broad going into the city.
hey good luck

Good on ya' for this, you definitely should consider contacting the Wishlist for it though. I'd give a bit of cash per mile for your troubles
The ride may be spectacular but with the weather we've been having lately you're more likely to see naked trees the whole way down :( If you need a ride back up just get in touch, we have some room in the back, albeit it's a teeny tiny Hyundai Tiburon, but it'd probably be more comfy and warm than a bike ride back up to Beantown

I'm a competitive endurance athlete, so these kinds of things really make me feel alive.
What about taking the train from doylestown? Looks like the SEPTA has a nothern most station there. Can i bring my bike on that? That way i can avoid all those crappy places. I saw EV in philly over the summer and that train ride from center city to the venue was an eye opener to how shitty some parts of philly are. Seeing streets with cars broken down and row houses with roofs caving in and no windows make you think you're in a war zone, I couldn't believe people live there. I've been in the bad parts of Boston and they look like hamptons compared to philly.
How many of you guys are staying at the crowne plaza? I should arrive there sometime mid-day saturday, let's get drinks before the show.
Bring along a camera and try to make a video diary of this thing.
You might become a Ten Club legend
EDIT: Have a kick ass time!!!!
