This doesn't mean that any of the named acts are 'shit'.

I meant no offense. To me, Kiss is sh*t. Plain and simple. But I don't expect all to have the same opinion. I just hate the music, the theatrics, and Paul Stanley's oh so witty concert banter. BUT, if they, (or in your case ICP), are your deal then it's all good.

Oh yeah I get that! There are many music acts that arean't my thing and I occasionally describe as shit! I won't tell people they're shit though, I merely state that I think they're shit... or if i'm feeling tactful, they're 'not to my taste'

No offense was taken Mr. Binnyfrogman, no worries

Whoever said in this thread that ICP is about shock/theatrics/glam/over the top, you are absolutely correct. The same as the likes of Kiss and Marilyn Manson. Millions of people are obsessed with Kiss and thousands with Manson, there is nothing wrong with this. One person's Pearl Jam or Rolling Stones is another's ICP or Kiss.

Not really. ICP is to Manson and Kiss what Creed is to PJ and Nirvana. Which is fine (hell, I like Buckcherry and they are to GnR what ICP is to Manson), but let's call a spade a spade. Everyone is entitled to their tastes, but that doesn't mean the band isn't shit. Like I said, I love Buckcherry, but I understand why most people think they're crap and I'm not going to take it personal.

More of what bothers me with ICP is their fans. GWAR is dumb. But ICP fans are kinda creepy in my experience. I'm from the area that they came out of and it's frighteningly accurate that a huge chunk of their fanbase is violent, meth-addicted, white trash. I say this because I know a lot of them firsthand. You're the first normal one I ever heard of ;) I'm glad to hear it's not all like that, but it's a bizarre cult-like atmosphere around here.

Last thing, speaking as a guy that majored in lit/creative writing at university, that doesn't necessarily mean you're all that intelligent ;)

I am too brainy! My mum said I am... :P ;)

I agree that ICP aren't technically good. They make poor, simplistic music. However, the comparison to Manson and Kiss was for the shock gimmick factor, nothing more. The comparison to the likes of PJ and the Stones was that, although we don't agree with it, there are shed loads of kids out there that think ICP are the greatest thing since a sliced medium wholemeal. There's nothing wrong with this, it's their opinion and a lot of them know no different. I was using my music taste/education as an example that although ICP are far from being up there with the greats, I still like them as I take them for what they are.

I think that what you said about the cult like atmosphere being around there is the key. I saw ICP here in the UK in 2003 and the fans who turned up were generally people aged between 15 and 25 (myself included) who were about as dark and threatening as a teapot. I know that in the US it's different and i'm glad we have a different type of ICP fan over here, we don't take what they say so literally... I know I laugh at ICP's music before I take any serious message from it, let alone go out and kill a family because the song 'If I Were a Serial Killer' told me to do so... All of the English ICP fans I know have been completely harmless, 'normal' people who have no idea how to even do meth... It's cuz we're English see, we do everything with a stiff upper lip, including following trashy horrorcore/rap artists

Besides, what's wrong with GWAR? Seeing them was one of the funnest gigs i've ever been to

nothing wrong with seeing GWAR, i think it'd be a riot. i just think that's the diff between ICP here and apparently ICP in the uk... there, you seem to approach ICP like we all approach GWAR... an absurd but fun group to see for all the theatrics. here, ICP's following is very different and a lot more disturbing.

KISS tried to merge rock with theater in the vein of the Who. like it or not, nobody was doing what they did with rock and they paved the way for a lot of music that followed (hair metal in particular). Manson did a lot of shock theatrics, but there was a definitive artistic statement to go with it and a lot of thought-provoking social criticism. he took the theatrics new places. ICP just copies the gimmicks, with none of the intelligence. i don't see anyone looking up to or remembering ICP in 20-30 years like they remember KISS, and i don't think the whole jugalo thing was an artistic vision. i think they just found a market they thought they could capture and built this cult around it. at least over here. by the time it gets over there it might seem goofy, but here it's just bizarre.

I find it insulting that ICP fans have been referred to in this thread as 'meth addicts' and 'stupid'. That is a very sweeping remark, it's unfounded and wrong. Opinions ARE valid, but insults are not.

I would never go as far as to say ALL ICP fans are meth addicts, that's pure ignorance. But unfortunately for the fanbase representation, the only ICP fans I've ever known have been strung out. Didn't mean to offend you, but I can't help the impression that has been made on me...then again, maybe I'm suffering from a lack of an open-mind. Kudos to you for being the first one to not fit that mold though.

As Soulyswingin' said, the ICP fanbase in the US and UK are very different. It actually doesn't surprise me that the kind of people you described, has been your experience with the Juggalo fanbase. Although not ALL are like that, even Stateside. I apologise if it seemed I was having a dig at you, t'wasn't meant like that and I didn't realise you were talking US :)

I have to agree that US Juggalos take their liking of the band to a different level. They need a good English cup of tea and a biscuit, they might calm down a bit...

Go see GWAR, you won't regret it! (tip: wear old clothes... :? )

I agree with your statement about Manson although many acts have had great stage shows, notably Alice Cooper and Kiss. Shock sells and will continue to sell while there's hoards of smelly teenagers who want to shock their parents and parents who want to go on a nostalgia trip every time they break out the Love Gun vinyl. It won't surprise you to read that I'm also a fan of Manson's work (pre Holywood anyways) and you're right, his stage theatrics, artistic statement and social criticism used to be spot on, better than some of the older greats infact. I used to love seeing him live, however, I believe he's sold out of late. Merely my opinion you understand, as an old school Manson fan ;)
I think you've hit the nail on the head with ICP to be honest. They are trying to cover their lack of musical talent with face paint and stage theatrics and it does end up looking clumsy and goofy. But meh, it works for me and I've found their stuff entertaining over the years. I've never taken them seriously.
ICP certainly won't be remembered in 20-30 years... unless one of their fans does something horrific in the name of the Juggalos... I can see it happening... It won't be me though, i'm just too busy for massacring these days...

It's amazing how they actually keep it together musically and still play to an OK standard while they're pissing about on stage

My best friend has seen them about 6-7 times and loves it every single time. He saves his t-shirt from each show. They tend to be brand new white undershirts before....but then later they have all varied from blood red to purple/blue, to a strange green.

Oh, how I look forward to being covered in fake blood, urine, and semen.

What is a juggalo? Lemme think for a second. (well? )Oh, he gets butt naked. And then he walks through the street winkin at freaks,Wit a two-liter stuck in his butt-cheeks! What is a juggalo? He just dont care.
He might try to put a weave in his nut hair.Cuz he could give a fuck less what a bitch thinks, He tell her that her butt stinks, and all that, What is a juggalo? He drinks like a fish, And then he starts huggin people like a drunk bitch, Next thing hes pickin fights with his best friends, Then he starts with the huggin again, fuck,
What is a juggalo? A fuckin lunatic. Somebody with a rope tied to his dick,Then he jumps out a ten-story windowéééoh!
