Paranormal Activity

  • We watched it on Saturday night...

It was decent. Better than the hacker/slasher horror movies that become more funny than scary after a while.

I got tired of the daytime stuff, but the actors were good together.

  • My husband hated this movie.

I was/am terrified by it. I tend to get really freaked out at night, usually more because of real stories I hear on the news, etc...but something about this movie has stayed with me and it is fucking me up! I had a hell of a time sleeping the night I watched it, and the night after that wasn't much better. Last night was the first night I was brave enough to be the last one upstairs and turn off all the lights, etc...

There are a million things to criticize about this movie as a whole, but I seriously enjoyed watching it and it absolutely terrified me, so I give it many kudos for that. My heart was pounding the whole time.
  • I thought it was by far one of the best scary movies I've seen in recent years. Actually got a few spine chills during the movie....which isn't common for me.

  • worst. movie. ever.

I'll give 'em props for trying something a little different, but it wasn't even scary.

They are trusting that the viewer believes they are watching actual footage. If you don't let yourself go there and think you're just watching actors, it isn't scary AT ALL.

It's really just a spin (and not a very good one) on Blair Witch Project.

Anyone else seen it in the last couple days?

    Exactly right...

My wife was freaked out by it because she thought that it was a true story... even after learning that it was an acted movie, she was still freaked out (maybe you can't be un-freaked out, once you are? :) )

I keep hearing how scary it is. My bf wouldn't even go with me because people he knew said it was disturbing. They said they couldn't even go to bed after watching it.

Now I really want to see it. :P

I'm curious as to what you think are some good scary movies? Isn't the point of going to a movie to escape from reality a little bit, and let your imagination wonder? If you can't do that I doubt you've ever enjoyed any fictional movie.

I just got done watching it.

I thought it was decent. Definitely better than any other scary movie that has come out in a while...
Predictable ending (and the additional ending on the Blu-ray or DVD wasn't any better).

Since I don't believe in ghosts, I was never really scared, but having my sound system on pretty high, some of the "jump moments" did just that...but that was more being spooked by a loud noise rather than what was happening on the screen.

I thought it was good. The last scene scared the shit out of me, but I was left thinking there should have been more or a better twist. It could have been ten minutes longer. Like mentioned, it was kind of predictable, but still creepy.

Also, I liked the Blair Witch. It was overhyped back in the day, but it had me going. I'd have to rewatch it to compare, but I liked the ending better from what I remember. Only bad thing was the shaky camera which gave me a headache.

I saw it a few months ago in the theater. It was a step up from the Blair Witch Project. Had I not seen any previews for it I would have been more impressed. Most of the scary parts were shown during the previews though. Also I was expecting to be scared so maybe expecting it I wasn't? Some of the parts were pretty lame like when the guy found the picture in the attic. Also the "psychic" guy was pretty bad especially at the end and when the couple found someone who just happened to have the exact same thing happen to them in one day? There were some good parts I liked. The effects were pretty cool and the couple was pretty good acting.

I Finaly watched this last night, in the home theatre with all the lights out.

It just didn't do it for me. The scariest thing was the acting! The concept was good, but I think it could have been alot more menacing than it was.

I thought 'The Ring' was creepy for the way she moved and the same with 'Splinter'.
    ' Seek' was scary too.
'The Entity', 'Poltergeist' and of course ' Amitiville Horror' were scary as they were based on REAL life accounts.

Anyone know of any good " Paranormal " scary movies you can reccomend? They are my Favourite. :D

It looks like you listed all the good ones. I liked the newer Amityville that came out a few years ago. Poltergiest set the standard and nothing has come close.

Paranormal Activity IMO was all hype. They had a ton of potential with this idea, but didnt really deliver too much. I am a wuss, am scared of the dark, and this movie didnt "stick with me" like I thought it would have listening to all the hype and seeing the idiots in the theaters in the commercials.

I thought the Ring was bad. I didn't find it scary at all. I could barely sit through it. Paranormal Activity was ok, but I wouldn't watch it again. It was way overhyped..

Poltergeist on the other hand, the first one where Spielberg was the producer, is one of the scariest movie's ever. Classic. I hope they don't remake it like they're saying. It is in no way outdated.

Just got back from the video rental store about an hour ago. I had heard about the movie before, the apparent "True Events" thing had intrigued me, then found out it was fake. So didn't want to rush to see it and heard it was not very good.
Had the video in my hand, but eventually set it back on the shelf. Now after reading about what many of you have posted, I'm wishing I had picked it up. :(
