Somebody I met off a board recommended them to me. Took me a while to get around to listening to them, but when I did I bought Yield and was instantly hooked. Had all their albums within 2 months of buying Yield. Have never looked back with this band!0

I was 13 (almost 14 at the time, late '91) and was basically listening to late 60's-70's rock 24-7. Zeppelin and Floyd were the be all and end all of music for me, then Nirvana came out and I was like "eh, pretty good", then PJ came out and I was blown away. I'll openly admit that once Vitalogy came out I kind of tuned out, but that was due to personal reasons not because of the music. My husband and I have been together since late '91 and had been saying for years "the next time PJ comes around we'll see them", unfortunately due to lack of funds it wasn't to be. But fate smiled upon us in '06 and we finally got to see them. Haven't stopped since! I swear they're like a drug!
But one I'm not willing to give up, ever!

My brother got me in to Pearl Jam. Back when Ten came out he used to listen to it ALL THE TIME and would try to sing like Eddie (it was funny) so it was his influence that got me interested. Then, for my birthday he got me Live on Two Legs when it came out and I was in love with it! I didn't actually see Pearl Jam until the SPECTRUM '03 and ever since then I have been a fanatic! Can't wait to go to the Spectrum again - awesome place.0

I knew they were one of my Dad's favorite bands so i figured i would give 'em a try. At the time I was listening to a lot of AC/DC. In January i was teacher's aide in one of my periods of school, and she was lenient on the iPods and such, so I randomly picked vitalogy to listen to. I HATED it (keep in mind, I was an AC/DC guy). And went home and bought Ten, just to give the band another try. I loved it (naturally), and barreled through the rest of the catalogue. Soon Vitalogy was my second favorite behind No Code, and Ten was my least favorite (that DOESN'T mean it's bad). It is remarkable how muched my musical tastes have changed in a mere ten months! I went from not knowing who Eddie Vedder was to singing on stage with him!September 30th, 2009

15 years old 1999 - Last Kiss on the radio, #1 here, loved it, taped it from the radio, blasted it.
few years later, about 2003 bought Ten & Vs at the same time, loved them.
Over a year ago decided to listen to RVM greatest hits that I bought about 2004-05 and it was collecting dust, heard songs on downside disc I ignored and loved them, especially given to fly and wishlist.
Bought Live at the garden, no code and yield, and the rest is history.
So for me it was a gradual introduction, but became a hardcore fan with Live at the garden, No Code & Yield.Adelaide 17/11/2009, Melbourne 20/11/2009, Sydney 22/11/2009, Melbourne (Big Day Out Festival) 24/01/20140 -
My dad got into them when I was about 5 so I've always sort of listened to them. It wasn't until my Sophomore year of High School, June of 2003 I think...my dad gave me Yield and Live on 2 Legs. I heard In Hiding while riding home on the bus and I was hooked ever since."Well, I think this band is incapable of sucking."
-my dad after hearing Not for You for the first time on SNL .0 -
i borrowed the cassette of Ten (yes, cassette) off a friend of mine and "accidentally" kept forgetting to take it back into school for him! I couldn't begin to imagine how many times i had to rewind that tape to get Black on again and again. Since then its been a downward spiral with my PJ addiction, no other music even comes slightly close to the love i have for themBlack, the greatest without a doubt........0

It was August of '91 and I was visiting my brother who lives in Mukilteo, WA. I had the Mother Love Bone album and knew, from Rolling Stone, of a new band forming from their remnants. My brother had heard of a free show so we went down to the Mural Amphitheater and experienced their awesomeness. I was hooked.Seattle 8/91, MPLS 3/92, St Paul 8/92, Denver 6/95, Missoula 6/98, MPLS 6/98, Albuquerque 10/00, Seattle 12/02, St Paul 6/03, Thunder Bay 9/05, DC 5/06, St Paul x2 6/06, Vancouver (EV) 4/08, DC 6/08, Chicago x2 8/09, KC 5/10, MPLS (EV) 7/11, Chicago 7/13, St Paul 10/14, Santiago 11/15, Missoula 8/18, Denver 9/22, Saint Paul 8/23, Saint Paul 9/23, Auckland, NZ x2 11/240

How did I become a PJ fan? Because back in 1994 (when I finally got enough money together to buy a copy of Vs) everything else sucked!
That may sound like a generalized statement (after all, this was the same year PJ released Vitalogy) but the fact remains, music in 1994 was dominated by insignificant, commercially driven crap. A quick read of Wikipedia's article on music in 1994 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1994_in_music will leave you asking, who the hell were Redex, why the hell did we care about Mariah Carey, and why did Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart and Sting punish us with that song they did together?
This musical environment is what lead me to become a Pearl Jam fan.
To this day, when I (occasionally) listen to mainstream radio stations playing 'Alive' as a regular part of their play list, I laugh and think back to the days when these same radio stations avoided playing Pearl Jam, and tried to convince me that East 17 (amongst other insignificant, commercially driven crap) were the most important band in the world.0 -
1992 - used to have an unofficial Saturday job (as I was only 13/14 at the time) in a record shop, heard Alive and that was it.
Still have my yellow covered promo version with the different solo at the end, and the cover of I've Got A Feeling
Working in that shop was great, got all their CD's from that era that would be considered rare now0 -
I had heard and loved their radio hits from Ten from the time it came out; I was 9 yrs old in '91. For the longest time I thought the Rolling Stones did "Black". Hey what can I say I was a child, my balls hadn't dropped yet. I was then shown most amazing harmony of Chris and Ed on the Temple of the Dog album when I was 15 and it was then I found out who Pearl Jam really was. I went out and bought every album and a 10C membership ever since.0

I live in Canada and I used to work for Sony of Canada in the late 80's and early 90s'. We used to get sampler CDs of various artists from Sony Music. Eash song had a little one-line comment below it on the sleeve, usually about the song itself. Remember, Pearl Jam had yet to release Ten at this point. One month one of the songs had a trivia question which asked a question about Stone and his first major band. The prize (you could send the answer to Sony music) said "win a PJ TP". Didn't know what a PJ TP was at the time b/c PJ was not really out yet to any large extent. Well, I asked a friend who Stone Gossard was and he told me so I sent the answer to Sony Music and a few months later, a PJ cassette tape (TP) showed up in the mail, obviously after the release of Ten. I took the tape to my local record store, traded it for the CD and listened to it that day. Turned out to be the greatest band in the world, IMO. The rest is history.0

I was browsing in Virgin Records and there was this awesome song playing. I asked the spotty oik at the counter what it was. "New Pearl Jam album mate, out today". The song was Go. I bought the album, he went back to scratching his balls. That day started it all, loved them longer than my wife.0 -
i met eddie in hawaii and he asked me to be the bands touring keyboardist. i have liked them ever since even though they don't let me play with them when they are on national tv.0

It was 1993 ... I was doing my homework (I was in my third year of high school) watching MTV and I heard this powerful voice ... I looked at the TV and I saw this long hair guy climbing over the stage ... even flow ...

My brother had always been a PJ fan, so I knew of them but never actually listened to them because i was pretty young. But one day i was doing chores and Even Flow started playing on my ipod, i didn't know what it was but i couldn't get the song out of my head for hours so I found out what the song was and then I started listening to PJ all the time. Still do.0
