Best Friends

Ok so I was hoping to get a quick poll going.
Nice and short and sweet.

1. Think of who your best friend is that you are NOT married to / in a relationship with!!
2. Are you the same gender, or different genders?
3. Post if you are the same gender or different genders.

Remember, your best friend is defined as the person closest to you that you don't have a relatioship with.

    If you are best friends with someone,doesn't that mean you have a relationship?

    I have very good friends but none that I would count as a best friend. I would say if I did have one, it would be my sister. She's been there for me all the time, more then can say for most of my friends.
    These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.

    I'm a twin sister, and my best friend is my twin sister. No one else comes close. She is married with kids, so I'm not her *best friend*, but I'm OK with being second fiddle. :D

    believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.

    Same gender.. Actually I have two best friends. One has been so for 21 years and the other about 15 years.. we all still hangout together at least once a week.. I am very fortunate also seeing we that also have a circle of friends who still hang out probably at least once or twice a month. I have a buddy I've known for almost 25 years (since the first grade) I still hang out with frequently..

    I also have a few female friends. We don't hang out as often, but have kept in contact for up to 10 years or so..

    Different sex best friends can happen but rare.. lets be honest, most relationships with the opposite sex are based on sex. If your partner woke up the same sex as you one day, I'm sure your "love" for eachother would fizzle quite quickly.. Same sexes relate to one another easier, and thus get along better for reasons other than sex.

    His girlfriend is the lady he was seeing while he was still with me :lol:

    Most people can't fathom the relationship that we all (me, my boyf, my ex, his girlf) have, but it's wonderful. We all get on so well and help each other out all the time. They're such a generous loving couple and have been a massive support in our lives... I wouldn't change anything about our friendships or how we got to this point :)

    I disagree.

    I have many really good (ok they're not 'best' but it's damn close) male friends with whom there has never been and will never be anything sexual.
    A lot of my male friends have girlfriends/wives and most don't have a problem with it. A few haven't been so accepting, have assumed there's more to it and scuppered the friendship. It's sad but it has happened.
