new record (EP) within a year??
In this months OOR magazine (biggest dutch music magazine; http://www.oor.nl) there's a short interview with Jeff, not much interesting except the following. He said that they recorded some incredible rock songs that did not fit on backspacer very well and he was hopefull that they will enter the studio again early next year to do some final recording/mixing on those tracks aiming at an new release within a year.
Similar words were already spoken by Mike on several interviews:
So, what do you guys think? Could this happen? I certainly hope so, I expect (wishfull thinking) they do a euro summer tour (just 4 shows overhere is not enough
) so it could generate some buzz at that time. Some hard rockers to take on the road. But I'm not sure if Ed is into this, apparently Mike & Jeff are. And I'm sure Matt and Brendan will not have any problem with this. So it's probably again up to Stone & Ed....
Similar words were already spoken by Mike on several interviews:
BM: I noticed you kept the songs very short, very direct, kind of garage-y. Were you sort of reining in the tendencies to make them a little bit more like that?
MM: I think we didn’t initially know that we were reining them in. We had about seventeen ideas going into this project, seventeen to twenty. And when we were at about eleven pretty much finished, Brendan (O’Brien, producer) and Ed sat down and said, “Hey, this looks like a really good record.” Stone (Gossard, guitarist) had been talking about wanting to have a record that was shorter, more concise and I think we achieved that. That being said, we still have other songs that are out there that are from this session that we may do something with in about six months. http://www.rockband.com/zine/mccready_interview

Ooh, very nice idea! Except for the killer hardcover, I want more for my 10C purchase! Well, not really, I was excited beyond belief that I got the album a few days early, so whatever.
as despite backspacer being an awesome record we all know it's ten mins and 3 tracks short
when the band are this on form it's only natural to want more and more

I hope Brendan O would find some time in his busy schedule to work with the mighty PJ. The next Nickelback record can wait
Well he found time for Springsteen and his very quick follow up
