Sadly , the only Dead Milkmen sighting on Halloween will be The Dead Milkmen live at the Trocadero . They don't do many shows any more , but 10/31 is one such night. How I would love to hear PJ doing " The Thing That Ate Hippies" , "Brown-nosing" , or "Punk Rock Girl " .

• Since we are talking Bruce, does anyone here need tickets for Bruce at the Spectrum 10/13?
They are in section 313 row 13, let me know ASAP, you pay what I paid.
This is the Born to Run show.

If Bruce appears on stage at either one of my two Spectrum shows I'll walk out. Hopefully
it would be last song of the second encore. That way it wouldn't be a totally wasted night.

I hope he guests on the opener. What will you do then?

I'd kill to have seen Bruce in '78. Good as he is live now, those performances are out of this world. I've yet to hear gigs that match Winterland, the Roxy, etc. The Racing/Thunder Road/Jungleland ending to the first set is one of the finest things I've ever heard. Bring on the Darkness boxset.
When we found the things we loved,
They were crushed and dying in the dirt.
We tried to pick up the pieces,
And get away without getting hurt,
But they caught us at the state line,
And burned our cars in one last fight,
And left us running burned and blind,
Chasing something in the night.

:o

DUDE. You realize that's regarded in Springsteen fandom as one of the greatest shows of all time? That's like, a serious thing that you saw that show lol.
LOL!

I know.
Wow, thats amazing, in my opinion it is THE greatest bruce show ever. The versions of prove it, backstreets, shes the one, the promised land.....just incredible, the best ever versions of those songs.

On one of the bruce message boards theres a huge discussion about whether that show was videotaped, cuz most winterland shows were filmed by the in-house cameras. Check out this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xt8st4k-OxE

Apparently the 2 clips that run from 21 seconds to 24 seconds are from winterland, if you see pictures from that show the clothes match up perfectly with those 2 clips. Id consider cutting off my arm to see that show on dvd. Theres a 30 year anniversary edition of darkness on the edge of town theyre working on, apparently theres gonna be a dvd of a 78 show, the msg shows in august and the houston show in december were both filmed and 1 of them will probably be included in the set. Cant wait
who messed up the quotes ?

anyways
just hadda mention
i was not there
but i have heard of a new years eve show,
( been called one of the greatest bruce shows- ever )
its not talked about alot like wonderland and roxy or the beacon
but out at nassau coliseum,
bruce played for like 5 and half hours
bruces mom and dad were there
and, they hadda take bruce off the stage on a stretcher, he was so dehydrated.
For the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside

You're probably thinking of the Nassau Coliseum show, New Year's Eve 1980. This was the setlist:

NIGHT / PROVE IT ALL NIGHT / SPIRIT IN THE NIGHT / DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN / INDEPENDENCE DAY / WHO'LL STOP THE RAIN / THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND / THE PROMISED LAND / OUT IN THE STREET / RACING IN THE STREET / THE RIVER / BADLANDS / THUNDER ROAD / CADILLAC RANCH / SHERRY DARLING / HUNGRY HEART / MERRY XMAS BABY / FIRE / CANDYS ROOM / BECAUSE THE NIGHT / 4TH JULY ASBURY PARK (SANDY) / RENDEZVOUS / FADE AWAY / PRICE YOU PAY / WRECK ON THE HIGHWAY / TWO HEARTS / RAMROD / YOU CAN LOOK / HELD UP WITHOUT A GUN / IN THE MIDNIGHT HOUR / AULD LANG SYNE / ROSALITA / SANTA CLAUS / JUNGLELAND / BORN TO RUN / DETROIT MEDLEY / TWIST AND SHOUT / RAISE YOUR HAND

There are bootlegs of this out there, if you want any more info on this (and the boots) send me a pm and I can send you links. One of the all time greats. Don't think it hit 5 and a half hours though! 4 is more accurate.

3 hours and 45 minutes, roughly. Also, that's not true about the stretcher. At least I don't think...

LOL, its so funny when people talk about bruce playing for 4 or 5 hours, it never happened. I just saw him at giants stadium and on the port authority bus i heard someone say "he'll probably play for 3 hours tonite but not 4 or 5 hours like he used to" 3 hour shows were the norm but usually not more than that, the new years eve show in 1980 being an exception, i think its his longest show ever, it may have hit the 4 hour mark.

3.45 sounds about right. I think he took a mid set break of about 20 mins too, though it's a while since I listened to that boot. The stretcher story is almost certainly exaggeration. But even if it was true, you could hardly blame him. That's a near four hour rock and roll concert. Unbelievable.

Aaah - I did - both on the '78 tour and the '80 tour. Will never forget it. And they were long shows - went on till 12 though I don't remember when they started.

Thats probably where the myth of the 4 and 5 hour shows come from, he had an intermission for the darkness and river tours (and bitusa too i think), so while he may have played till midnite, you had a 25 minute break or however long the intermissions were. So lets say the show started at 830, playing till midnite is 3 1/2 hours but only about 3 hours of music with the intermission. I say only 3 hours like its not alot haha Bruce is the greatest live performer ever, but the 4 and 5 hour shows people always say they saw never happened. If the 12-31-80 didnt hit the 4 hour mark then i dont think he ever played a 4 hour show

Im listening to the 'night for the vietnam veteran' show from the river tour, another candidate for best ever bruce show

Really guys

I know not all these artists are your favourites and yep, a song can be 'butchered' but let's show some respect for the artists and Pearl Jam's desire to jam or duet with them. I wonder how many rolling stone fans think Ed 'butchered' wild horses (I think it is beautiful).

Seeing Jerry Cantrell two nights in a row was awesome, but I'd be just as happy if they wanted to drag Neil Diamond up on stage - it's the band giving themselves and their fans something special.

No need for negativity.

That happened ... sort of:

07/08/95 - Summerfest: Marcus Amphitheater: Milwaukee, WI [130m]
attendance: 24,000
support act: The Frogs and Bad Religion
set: Oceans, Go, Animal, Even Flow (song stopped), Corduroy, Whipping, Better Man, Dissident, Last Exit, Spin the Black Circle, Tremor Christ, Jeremy, Daughter/(Stepping Stone), Improv, State of Love and Trust, Black, Not for You, Immortality, Alive, Blood/Improv (One of Those Days), I Got Shit, Rearviewmirror, Yellow Ledbetter
enc: Forever in Blue Jeans, Porch
notes: Security permitted cameras into this show. There is no pit at this venue and the seats are bolted down. The mood was tentative, given the outcome of the previous show in San Francisco. After becoming comfortable with an extremely appreciative audience, the show became unforgettable. Long, jammy version of 'Alive.' Stone discovers a new, goofy riff to inject into the middle of 'Blood' and the band has a good laugh over it. Eddie addresses the crowd before 'Not For You' about the recent tour difficulties. He quips, "I gotta tell ya, my stomach hurts like hell right now. I think I got cryptosporidium," a reference to a cryptosporidium outbreak in the Milwaukee water system in the early 90s. (Recall he left the stage early at PJ's previous show in San Francisco due to food poisioning.) Ed brings out a Neil Diamond impersonator and the guy's wife (local folks, Thunder and Lightning) to sing 'Forever in Blue Jeans.' Ed pulls up a chair and crosses his legs like he's just sitting in a coffee house with a few friends and sings the second verse. Fun show with the guys showing a lot of energy.

Im sure hes influenced eddie as a songwriter, but as far as PJ's sound being influenced by bruce i dont see it. Bruce's sound is heavy on piano and organ and sax, PJ's sound obviously is mostly guitar driven.

Plus, bands sounds always change..I see them playing with a full orchestra...just as long as it doesn't break up the band!
