You're totally right for me too, the more people I tell, I tend to fail. I think it's just the intrinsic motivator that works no matter the amount of people you tell. If it's not for yourself, then you'll fail. Period. I just tend to not be motivated for more than a few days on anything, whether it's budgeting(I'm a shopper at heart), eating better,...etc. This thread is helping though, like no person can because there isn't really anyone I can talk to about it as much during the day. Yeah my boyfriend, but not so much since we don't work together. So thanks for that too decides!
Hey dcfaithful you should send her a link!
well as ever, everyone is different. i DO know smokers who are tempted...forever. but most i know are not. me, i smell a cigarette, 9x outta 10, i want to vomit - i am repulsed and cannot imagine i walked around smelling like that. tho sure, there are times i just think of the *idea* of smoking, the enjoyment i got from it....but still, not really temptation. also, for me anyway, i find the longer i am "successful" the less apt i am to fuck it up. i know just how much i loved smoking, and how utterly hooked i was, and how fucking hard it was to quit..so yea, motivators to tel my brain, i don't miss it. so i don't.
as to the motivation - yes, it was an interesting article..sorry i can't remember where i read it. but basically the synopsis was, the more people you tell about your plan to quit/exercise/eat healthier...the less apt you are to do so, simply b/c for some reason the act of "telling" about it, in some sense gives a feeling of satisfaction/accomplihment, like you almost did it already. i've also read about the big differences between men/women in regards to such things too. of course, they are generalities, always exceptions...but i do find a lot of truth in em.
bottomline, you GOT it....motivation must come from within, and you absolutely have to want it!
i discussed your fruit and veg diet with mr. dream over dinner....pretty much summed up that yea...i don't think i could ever do it.i want to improve my health/longevity and i do want to lose weight, but...not that way. we all have to find what works! i wish you much success in the battle against evil junk food! and hey,. it's only one week...you can do it! then, share your success in keeping off the junk.
Thank you! Third day and man I woke up this morning wanting a soda so BAD!!!!!!! But no soda. Banana! Hehehe. Here's to another day!bugs in the way...I feel about you

I haven't read through this entire thread, but the thing with diets, once they are over you go back to your old habits. Do you plan on living on just fruits/veggies forever? If not then why bother? Find a good mix of smaller portions of foods you like (and get rid of all soda), and add in some exercise. You should start losing weight AND be able to keep it off by maintaining the new lifestyle.0

Thank you. But, losing weight isn't my main goal. It's just a jump start to healthier eating habits. I could stand to lose a good 10 lbs but I'm not dying to do it. I'm ok with how I am. I just want to be healthier.bugs in the way...I feel about you

Speaking of bananas:
it only took me about 35 years to realize that bananas and apples are uber-drugs. Oh, man! What good chemicals in those little packages. The texture of a banana makes me gag sometimes, and apples are too hard on my teeth sometimes. That's probably why it took so long to realize this fact.
Now that I know, though, I eat a banana before I run, and apples when I'm ready to challenge my teethThere is no such thing as leftover pizza. There is now pizza and later pizza. - anonymous

I'm very happy clementines are back in season. It seems like price-wise melons never had a season!!bugs in the way...I feel about you

when you go thru as much wine as i do, no it's not. it's not a 'problem' in any sense, except for my wallet and probsbly my waistline. thus, i want to cut back. like you, i too need to set myself stringent parameters when i desire to change, thus, no weeknight drinking. also, i have just way too many risk factors for breast cancer, and there has been too much of a correlation with alcohol/breast cancer, so yes....i want to avoid that as much as possible!
mealy apples suck. so does mealy bananas! i like granny smith apples. but i am weird, i don't ever just bite into and eat an apple; i prefer to slice mine up.
clementines are just adorable and uber-tasty gifts from other nature. i was so psyched to buy a bag on sunday!i think i had a thread dedicated to them not long ago(hate that you can't search yours, or othr member's, thread titles anymore).

Clementines are the baby oranges, right? They are very convenient and easy to peel. Definitely a must for those of us trying to add more fruit eating to our lifestyles. There is no such thing as leftover pizza. There is now pizza and later pizza. - anonymous

I tried to get into Wine for a while. I like whites. Especially Rieslings! I can't get used to drinking anything warm. I won't even drink my water if it's room temp. Maybe one day.
I only eat sliced apples. I won't bite it. I'm weird like that too... I don't like meat on the bone either but that's not for this thread.
clementines are soooooo good and I can eat too many in a day. I would bring them to work and just line 'em all up on my cube wall. Everyone eats them with me. The way you and I go back and forth we should probably PM!

indeed they are!
they are perfect in every sense, imo of course.
i really don't need to eat any more fruit at all. i could stand to eat more 'real' veggies, b/c even amongst fruits classified as veggies, really...they are fruits - peppers for example. i believe anything with seeds is considered a fruit, not a veg. that said, if i just upped my broccoli and leafy greens to be sure to get something from those categories, daily, id be ok in the veggie dept. too. if i ate ALL the time as i do M-F during my workday, and usually my weeknights (sans wine)...i would be crazy-healthy food intake wise anyway. i'm workin' on it.Stay with me...

I sorta detest veggies. That's the hard part. I've tried doing veggies for dinner and I've wound up hating dinner. I like corn...carrots...that's pretty much the extent of my veg eating. Maybe cucumber with lime and chile, otherwise yuck!bugs in the way...I feel about you

red wine is not meant to be drunk warm. you should pop it in the fridge for 15 minutes before serving. so no, certainly not ice cold, but not warm, either. just an fyi. i like my beverages ICE cold, but wine is my exception.
oh good....i am not too weird then.
hahahahahaha. clementines are too expensive to share like that! :P i bring 3 into work daily, and i try to keep my daily consumption of them to that. y husband eats them too, so you bet, a big bag of em disappears in a week. and grapes, yes! i've ODed on red grapes this summer, sooooo good! tho now they are getting 'eh', but luckily, clementines are back! also, grapes are crazy-expensive too! actually, so much is! we have an excellent korean market, usually great produce and prices, but i don't always like making n extra trip or stop, b/c i would still have to go to the regular grocery store, the korean place just doesn't carry enough of everything we need.
and hey, we are ON topic, so sure...no need to PM. ms. haiku is participating now too!as are others, sporadically, joining in. can't help it if work is slow, slow, slow lately...and yes, i am passionate about fruit.
i hear ya on the veggies. i like a good #, but they are mostly dinner food. sure, there are always salads and such, but i easily get burnt out on em. fruit is just so quick and easy, and soooo tasty....i find i eat much more of it. that said, it still is so good for you, and it's got to be better than eating so many other, bad, choices!
ahhhh....lunch in a few!
btw - corn is technically a grain.
cucumbers = seeds = technically a fruit.
so the only veg you like is carrots.
it's amazing just how many veggies really aren't 'veggies'...dunno how or why they got mis-labeled. probably b/c fruit is more of a snack, and veggies more of a dinner? dunno. fruit is just easier. i find all the vegs i like i prefer cooked, or chopped up, or only with certain things, etc, etc. thus why, if i eat an omlette, i try and have it with spinach, b/c that is yum in eggs! do things like that and it oes all help.
ok, time to EAT.Stay with me...

Yup, red grapes is what I'm eatin' and I got them 'cause they were crisp on on SALE! I think I've had enough because I just ate half the bag. I feel kind of ill. heheheh oh well! At least I'll be full for a while.
Yeah, I just can't get into the taste of veggies. I've tried. I've tried adding broccoli to cheese.....twice baked potatoes...egg....it just tastes so bad. Many guys I know will eat whatever, no matter the taste because they don't want to waste food or they know it's good for them. I just cannot do that. I have to like what I eat. Or I promise I will vomit. I just can't force it down! I get a talking to for that sometimes. I always tell my boyfriend that if the food is kid friendly, I'll pretty much 99% love it! Sad, I know. I just never grew into liking veggies like all the grown ups used to tell me I would.
Work is slow here...hence my quick replies as well. Though, being the department that I'm in I know we track web usage. But oh well. What do you do? Yeah yeah...stay off, I know!!!!bugs in the way...I feel about you

Amazingly, people eat broccoli without being forced. That still boggles my mind. Broccoli is a reason why the uber-juicer was created. I'm not good at eating veggies (except tomato sauce
) Hey I bet the USDA counts it as a veggie.

the trick with broccoli for me anyway is this: it must be cut into small pieces, it must be fresh and firm, it must be mixed with other veggies and it must be SPICY. then, it is awesome. in almost all other forms i find it repulsive. i cannot eat cauliflower b/c in no form whatsoever do i find it tolerable. i find many, many veggies...the only way i find them at all tolerable or enjoyable, is in similar circumstance to broccoli.
as far as tomato sauce - YUMMM! and do ya know? one of the HEALTHIEST ways to consume a tomato?! it is actually BETTER than eating it raw, which is very rare since cooking usually destroys/lowers nutrients, but in the case of the tomato, cooking releases more lycopen. win-win! and the only way i eat tomatoes is as above like broccoli...and i LOVE it in the form of sauce, or salsa.
btw - juiced broccoli?! = YUCK! :xStay with me...
